He stopped and then he made up for it and kissed me until we were both out of breath and Tyler was yelling at us to get in the house. Well, first he shouted, “get a room,” then he told us to get in the house because mom and dad wanted to meet the man kissing their oldest daughter on the front porch on Christmas Day.

But even with all that, it was the best damn kiss ever.

Until the next one, of course.

EPILOGUE

TWO MONTHS LATER

DEAN

Nori was stunning in her ankle length wedding dress. Tears gathered in my eyes while I watched her father walk her down the aisle of the small church on the Saturday before I was officially due back at work for Spring Training.

Our family and close friends attended the intimate ceremony. We decided we didn’t want to wait until after the season to get married: it was too long to wait when we wanted to start our life together now.

My bride made me the luckiest and happiest man alive not once, but twice in less than a month. First, when she said yes and then just last week when we were back up at our cabin, buried under blankets on the bearskin rug in front of the fireplace. She placed a hand on her lower abdomen and told me we were having a baby.

She was scared. I was scared. We hadn’t planned for it, although I knew from the way she doted on my nieces and nephews at our engagement party that she would make a wonderful mother. At thirty-eight, her doctor assured her that although they would consider her high risk because of her age, she was in excellent health. They’d be keeping a close eye on her and our baby during the entire pregnancy.

Heath was beyond thrilled, well as much as a nineteen year old could be about becoming a big brother. And since he was grown and didn’t need her to mother him, they bonded over her foreign travels, developing a fast friendship. He now wanted to visit some of the countries she’d been. I negotiated it to one trip a summer as long as he was in college and kept his grades up and definitely no war zones.

Nori’s father gave me her hand. Emotion welled within me, and a tear finally fell down my cheek. At that moment, I didn’t care who saw how this woman affected me. Her shining eyes met mine and…screw it. I was going to kiss my bride no matter what the reverend said last night at the rehearsal.

But I did wait until her father sat down, however.

“Dean, I know that look in your eyes. You can’t kiss me till after he says, you know, ‘…husband and wife.’” She whispered.

“Too bad. Can’t wait and you look so beautiful. A dream wrapped in a song, or maybe it’s the other way around. Either way, you’re too irresistible.”

The kiss was a huge hit, and the reverend didn’t say a word. At least not until the third kiss before the end of the ceremony.
