Annas took the lead to the clubhouse while Wolf grabbed the prospect by his neck and pushed him towards the clubhouse.

“You’re coming with me,” Wolf said.

“It’s Rick or us, Z,” Angel said to Zeus before he walked away.

Demon and Zeus were the only officers in the club under the age of forty with voting rights, so most of the brothers of their generation stood by them since the old timers in the club always stuck together.

Demon didn’t catch the grumbles after that. His eyes were drawn to the magnificent girl who stood with her shoulders straight, her all-seeing gaze zeroed in on him.

Like a live wire that coursed through him, his feet closed the distance between them.

“I’m not doin’ this for you.”

He didn’t know why he felt the need to point that out—but he did.

Her stubborn chin tilted slightly. “Did I even say that?”

“No. But before you get any ideas into your head…”

She actually had the balls to roll her eyes at him.

While some brothers left them standing to go inside to discuss at the table how Rick should be handled, others went over to the picnic tables to enjoy their Sunday, like nothing happened.

“Come, Cat. I’ll take you home,” Devlin said as he already walked away with Nora.

Her feet pinned to the concrete, she didn’t move a muscle as she stared at him in silence. Demon didn’t know what to do with the uneasy feeling of pins and needles traveling up his spine while their eyes locked.

“You need to leave.”

“I know,” she said in a voice void of any emotion.

“So why isn’t your little ass getting out of here?”

“You’re in my way.”

He bit his bottom lip to hide his smile.

“I’ll throw you over my shoulder and put you in your brother’s truck myself if I have to.”

“I’d like to see you try. How attached to your face are you?”

The girl had sass. He had to give her that. Demon unhurriedly stuck his finger out in the warm Texas air between them before it finally reached the tip of her nose. He knew he played with fire, as his finger was in genuine danger of getting bitten by this feral kitty cat.

She surprised him once again by letting him flick the tip of her nose. He immediately withdrew his index finger, turned and said over his shoulder, "I'll make sure that bastard never molests little girls ever again."

The wind in his back carried her whispered, “Good.”

CHAPTER FIVE

Demon entered the clubhouse backroom for church. He took in the oval hard wooden table, his gaze catching the grand carved Viking emblem. If Annas would insist on keeping on Rick as a prospect, Demon would have no choice but to turn his back on the club that once saved his life, but further blackened his soul.

“You done chatting up little girls?” Mud sneered upon Demon entering church.

“Why is he here?” Demon asked Annas, ignoring Mud all together.

Annas sat back in his chair like the top dog he obviously was. “We’re discussing his son.”

“Only officers have a place at the table. Son or not, Mud needs to step out.”
