CHAPTER ONE

Amara slammed her open palm against the downstairs bathroom door before she fell on her knees in front of the toilet seat. Seven nasty shots, six chasers and four vile cocktails she’d poured herself earlier tonight clawed their way back up her throat in a lightning fast pace.

She’d done everything she could to keep a brave face. But after what she’d witnessed through the glass patio door several hours ago, things finally got to her.

This was all too much. Way too much.

Just a few months ago, her father got stabbed to death. And tonight her friend Cat got kidnapped after she’d just stepped outside to smoke a blunt in the backyard. When would this violence ever stop?

She startled at the big hand that radiated warmth into her sweaty, cold back right trough the thick fabric of her black sweatshirt that matched her yoga pants. Amara recognized his woodsy scent instantly, as Wolf softly caressed her.

“I’m fine,” she said as she wriggled her upper body to let his hand fall.

“Hold still, Princess.”

Wolf calling her Princess triggered another wave of nausea.

“Oh, shit,” he said.

She wanted to scream at him to let her puke in peace, but she needed to focus on hitting her target so she didn’t need to clean the entire bathroom afterwards. It took her some time before she could finally breathe without feeling that awful gag reflex.

Wolf handed her a towel. “I’ll be right back with some water. Sit tight.”

It wasn’t like she would go anywhere. She closed her eyes for a moment while keeping herself upright by resting her back against the cool tiles.

“What the fuck have you been drinkin’?” Wolf said upon entering the bathroom again. He handed her a tall glass of water and she eagerly drank to get rid of the foul taste in her mouth.

She placed the half-empty glass next to her on the tiles and closed her eyes for a sec. Amara heard the familiar clank from putting the toilet seat up before she recognized the brushing of the toilet brush against the porcelain.

She peered through one eye and said, “You don’t need to do this. I was going—”

“It’s no problem. You sit still and concentrate on getting better.” He didn’t bother to turn around and look at her as he talked—probably for the best in the condition she was in.

Amara couldn’t bear to look at the man she’d been in love with since forever and closed her eyes again.

To fill the awkward silence, she said, “Cat found ouzo before they… you know… took her.”

Amara wondered if she kept her eyes closed long enough, that the horrid events of tonight would magically disappear. She hoped that Cat could somehow find the strength to fight them off long enough until Amara’s brothers would find her.

Her brothers had always been larger than life in her eyes. Maybe because of the ten year age difference. They’d also proven over the years they were ready to take over the club from her father who’d slowly lost his marbles over the past years.

She’d always felt like nothing could ever hurt Demon—until tonight. The pure look of terror in his eyes when her sister Demi told him that Cat had been kidnapped broke Amara’s heart.

Demon loved Cat. Just like Cat had always been in love with him.

Amara prayed that Demon would find Cat soon and that he would finally give himself permission to be loved.

She thought back to the three men dressed in leather and beanies that covered their cowardly faces. If they had taken Amara, she wouldn’t have stood a chance in surviving. She wasn’t too proud to admit it. Cat, however, as one of the female MMA fighters for the club’s underground fighting club, broke one guy’s nose.

She sucked in a breath when Wolf’s large thumb suddenly swept over the apple of her cheek. Wolf had done this a hundred times over the past few years whenever he watched the house and shared a large pizza with her on the couch while they watched dumbass movies together.

Amara almost never made it to the end of the movie. Wolf raking his thumb over her skin was just something he always did to gently wake her. It was just a friendly touch of her brother’s best friend. Nothing more, nothing less.

In Wolf’s eyes, perhaps.

Amara fell fast and hard for the Iron Viking with the cheeky grin and infinite supply of banter. Too bad Wolf was one of those guys who knew perfectly well that all the girls swooned over him. He proudly fucked every single girl that smiled his way.

“I’m so sorry you had to see them take Cat, Princess.”
