“Motherfucker!” Cat roared as she passed Amara.

“You head upstairs and warn the others,” Gwenn yelled at Amara as she walked with Cat towards the steel door.

Amara heard a motorcycle engine and knew in her gut that it was Vic fleeing the compound. Since she didn’t know in what shape they would find Turtle, she yelled at Fox who came running into the bar, “I need a medical kit. And boiled water. Vic shot Turtle!”

Like the dutiful daughter of an outlaw biker president, Amara had learned how to suture long before any of her friends. Her dad had a thing for getting into fistfights. In her line of work at the clinic, she’d assisted the veterinarian hundreds of times during all kinds of operations.

Since nobody called the cops at IVMC, Amara knew that Turtle’s life depended on her. Fox told Green and Squirrel to get her the supplies before he went outside to join Gwenn and Cat.

Amara hurried up the stairs, ran into Wolf’s room and fetched the clean sheets she’d washed earlier this morning. She grabbed an extra pair from his closet and ran back to the bar.

While she ran up and down through the clubhouse, she kept shouting, “Turtle’s shot! Help!”

Zion and Crusher joined her at the pool table, already reading into her plan. They placed the clean sheets upon the table, keeping the other clean sheets on a chair nearby.

Green walked up with a large bowl of boiled water, while Squirrel carried a stack of clean towels.

“Thanks, guys.”

She glanced around and yelled, “Where is my medical kit? It’s supposed to be underneath the bar!”

Crusher came running with the kit in his hands. “Here, Princess.”

“Where’s Turtle?” she asked.

The fact that they hadn’t brought him in yet, worried her. It could mean two things: he either got away unscathed, or it may be too late to save him.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The steel doors to the clubhouse opened with a bang as Fox and Angel carried Turtle inside.

“Get out of the way!” Fox yelled.

Fox and Angel hoisted a loud groaning Turtle onto her improvised surgical table before stepping back and giving Amara room to check on her patient.

She’d never operated on a human before. Dr. Poolittle had given her a lot of room to assist him in any of the operations, but she found it difficult to concentrate as thirty brothers all watched her stare at Turtle who’s gray shirt reddened by the second.

“Amara… It’s going to be okay. Ranger already called Kera who served with us. She’s an army medic. Well, she’s working at the ER now she’s back home. She’ll be here in five.”

Amara nodded while staring at Turtle’s pale face. Five minutes would take too long. As she eyed her friend on the table, she almost broke down and cried. But she stopped herself because she knew that Turtle wouldn’t want her to cry.

He would want her to roll up her sleeves and make everyone see that she wasn’t a prissy princess. She was Amara fuckin’ Doukas. They might know her as daughter of their former president or sister of their current Prez, she would show the club that there was more to her than just being the Club Princess. She knew her stuff. Amara Doukas wasn’t afraid to step out of the box that everyone had always put her in.

She washed her hands in the bowl and shouted into the bar, “Give me two extra bowls with boiled water!”

Amara didn’t bother to wipe her hands dry since she doubted if those towels were perfectly clean. She nudged her head toward Turtle and said, “Zion, cut his shirt.”

Zion did as she asked and she watched blood pouring out of one gunshot wound around his collarbone. She placed one of the towels on top of the wound, watching closely as the white towel turned red in a heartbeat.

“Is the bullet still inside?” Zion asked.

Amara walked around the pool table, sticking her hand under Turtle’s back, feeling blood on his shirt.

“There’s blood on his back. I hope that the bullet went through and out of his back. Y’all need to search near the picnic tables for a bullet.”

“We heard two gunshots,” Gwenn added.

“Right. Two. But it looks like only one hit him in the collar bone,” Amara said.
