Alexis

There is a sock on my boyfriend's doorknob. Please tell me this is a joke.

I left my laptop charger here last night, and if I don’t get it, I will be royally screwed. Jake’s roommate is probably fucking some lower classman, and I’m going to fail my math assignments because I won’t make it to the lecture on time.

This is really great.

Grabbing my phone from my bag, I find his roommate’s name and press his number. I expect to hear the ring on the other side of the door, but there’s nothing.

“Hey Alexis, what’s up?”

“Hey, I need to grab my laptop charger from your dorm. Is it cool if I pop in and get it?”

“Sure, but why didn’t you just ask Jake?”

I can hear chatter in the background, so he’s not here.

“I thought he was in class,” I say as I stare down at the stupid symbol of hooking up mocking me. “I’ll give him a call, thanks.” I hang up and step closer.

I reach out for the handle, but when the sound of grunts and moans hits my ears, my blood starts boiling. This better be someone else. Finding the spare key Jake gave me after our first month of dating, I throw the sock to the ground, unlock the door, and storm in.

There he is. My boyfriend hilt deep in a petite redhead.

“What the fuck?” I shout in disbelief.

He pulls out of her fast, his dick going soft before my eyes.

“You fucking prick,” I say, pushing past them both to grab my charger.

Stumbling off the bed, he reaches out for me. I avoid his grasp as I strut out of the room with my chin up.

In one last attempt, he grates, “Lexi, baby, don’t go.”

“Baby?” The redhead is angry, and rightfully so. I can’t imagine the lies he’s told her.

I turn around in the doorway.

“Jake, we are over. In case that wasn’t obvious.” I look at her. “We have been dating for the last year and a half. So I’m not sure how long this has been going on, but you deserve better.”

Jake tries to get my attention again. “Lexi, wait.”

I ignore him.

“You’re a fucking asshole,” I hear the girl tell him before the door closes as I walk past that stupid sock left discarded on the floor.

Now I’m going to fail my assignments for a whole other reason.

I feel like a fool, and I’m sure that girl feels just as bad if not worse. Jake has a way about him. It’s how he won me over. Sweet smiles and sweeter words.

If I can’t get my head straight, I’m going to be worthless the rest of the day. But the only thing I want to do is go back to my dorm, grab my wallet, and spend Halloween indulging.

I enjoy the walk across campus. It’s usually filled with happy thoughts and excitement because I’m always going to see Jake. This time though, it’s filled with heartache and shame. Each person I walk past, I assume they can see the betrayal on my face.

Sending my roommate Kate a text, I ask her if she wants anything while I'm at the store.

The cravings have won over, and I’m taking a mental health day.

The text goes through, and my phone rings almost instantly.
