He’s covered in detailed zombie makeup, a foam candy cane sticking out the side of his neck. Thick, black ooze dripping from his various “wounds.”

He’s getting to me, judging me from the sidelines like that. But I let my frustration fuel my performance.

This costume is like my own personal cage. Hell’s Gates has never felt like anything other than home, but tonight it all feels wrong. The same way it did the morning after I told her goodbye.

Fuck.

I remind myself this is just for tonight. Once the last firework pops and her friends take her away, I will become the same man I was on October thirtieth.

It’s fucking cruel, having her here so close, getting these sweet samples of time with her. Knowing I’ll have to let her go and sulk my way through the time until I might get to see her again.

This time it was only six weeks. What happens when it’s ten months or more and she’s moved on with someone else? Someone who can give her all their time and attention.

When I finish my round, I make an effort to keep my steps believable until I pass into the safe haven of the dark shed. Ripping the fur jacket off my body, I try to breathe through the fury that is on the verge of taking me over.

I should have a few minutes until that damn bell goes off again and it’s time for me to announce the fireworks.

I need my pet. I need Alexis. To hold her, smell the familiar scent of her skin. To disappear into the warmth of her beautiful brown eyes.

My breaths are coming in short and quick. I haven’t had an anxiety attack in years, but this one is coming on quick. Plopping onto one of the metal chairs with a creak, I drop my head between my knees and take in deep, slow breaths.

“Everything is fine,” I whisper to myself between inhales.

After four or five lungfuls of air, my cue to announce the fireworks goes off, and I pull myself together. I don’t need to go far. Just make it out onto my throne and thank the people for coming before I bring the night to a close.

Alexis

“It’s time for the fireworks,” Kate says, her voice bright with excitement.

“Let’s go get a good spot,” Jay replies, leading the way back toward the center.

I follow behind until I can break off and findourspot. The very place my monster fucked me under the loud pops of color, pushing me to my limit as he pulled orgasm after orgasm out of me.

My skin breaks out in goosebumps at the memory.

“Hey guys, I’ll meet up with y’all after.”

“Alright, see ya.” I can hear the question in Kate’s voice, but I’ll deal with that later.

I hastily climb up the ladder before I hurry to the edge, wanting to lay eyes on Krampus himself.

There he is, looking powerful and…bored, in the large velvet chair.

We can’t have that. This is his special night.

His head moves slowly as he scans the crowd. When he can’t find me, he looks harder, leaning forward slightly. Then his gaze moves up, finding me standing on the roof watching him. He moves his head in just a way to acknowledge me, but not so much that anyone would suspect anything.

One of the workers passes him a mic as all the lights around us go down. And all the red and green ones on him slowly get brighter.

“Good evening,” he says to greet the crowd. His deep voice is loud, vibrating through my whole body.

Nibbling on my bottom lip, I listen as he thanks everyone for coming out and celebrating the holidays with him. He finishes up his speech by letting everyone know the fireworks will start shortly. He passes the mic off, and his lights dim to almost nothing as his eyes lock on me once again.

The fireworks, if positioned the same as before, will be popping above him. So that means he will miss the entire show.

A wild thought comes to mind. What if I give him something to watch instead?

A rock version of a popular carol plays loudly through speakers as the first pop rings through the air and a loud bang sounds off above us. Green lights up the sky and the people below.
