His eyes burned into mine.

“I’m afraid,” I whispered. His fingers sank slowly into my skin, reminding me gently of the power that coursed through his body.

“No one,” he said, firmly and icily, sending a chill through me. “Is going to hurt you.Now tell me what happened with Tor.”

CHAPTER7

Rhys

“Are you gonna take this from him?” Black shouted at me.

“My blood is already up,” I shot back, without looking at him. It was a warning he took, but not easily.

Black was hot-blooded, and it surprised everyone that he was a beta. I was grateful for him, and did not question his loyalty. But his temper was not ideal for his role.

He smashed his fist into a compartment and it crushed beneath his anger.

I ignored it. If I gave in to Black’s temper tantrum, who knew where I would stop myself?

“You can’t have this kind of disobedience,” Black shot at me, looking at his hand, which was going to swell. He closed and opened his fist several times, looking at it.

I knew that he meant Tor, and not Alena.

It was obvious what Black felt for Alena. Obvious enough that Alena trusted Black, which was as it should be, and that she had somehow gone to work on Black, pressing all of his buttons, making him extract this story from her, which had sent him into a rage.

Which is whyIhadn’t shared it with him.

This business with Tor didn’t call for Black’s temper.

Or mine.

It called for tactics.

“Get Doc to look at that,” I growled.

“It’s fine. What are you going to do about Tor?” Black was not relenting.

I shifted my jaw.

“Nothing.”

This sent Black into a rage, and I knew it would. His arm was swinging at the compartment again – this time, he seemed like he would punch a hole right into the corridor.

But I moved faster than him, and caught his fist.

This was usually the end of things. But Black was consumed by his anger – and his obvious obsession with Alena – and he pushed back hard. I closed my hand around his fist and wouldn’t let him pull it back again.

His eyes searched mine for a brief second, and then turned wild with unabated rage.

I caught his other fist and swung it around, catching his other arm and intending to drop him with a sweep of my leg. But Black was too angry, too impassioned, and he was actually fighting back with what seemed like all of his force.

We struggled only momentarily, and I gained the upper hand immediately when I began to use my full physical strength.

I had never had to do that with Black.

I slammed him into the compartments on the far wall of the room, and put my forearm to his throat. “Enough!” I yelled, glaring at him, beaming all of my dominance into his eyes.

Black spat. But sideways.
