“You’re wearing that while you listen to me whine about being cold?” he asked, incredulous.

“I figured you wouldn’t let me stay cold for very long.”

“Damn right I won’t.”

Jay breathed on his hands for a moment before gliding them up my torso and over my breasts. His thumbs skimmed across the silky, lacy fabric that did nothing to hide the stiff peaks of my nipples.

More fireworks exploded overhead in a quick volley, one after the other. We were too preoccupied with each other to pay any attention. Jay draped the blanket around my shoulders and tugged me closer, creating a cocoon of our body heat and a modicum of privacy if anyone happened to walk by underneath our balcony - not that anyone was looking at us while the fireworks were going. He dipped his head as he pulled the cups of my bra down, flicking his tongue over one nipple as he pinched and rolled the other.

I sighed at the blissful sensation, sliding my arms around Jay’s shoulders. I arched against his mouth, letting him lick and suck and swirl his tongue over my breasts. I fumbled at his belt buckle, unzipped his fly. When I touched his hardening cock, Jay sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth.

“Rosie, honey, your hands are like blocks of ice. Don’t torture a man like that.”

“Sorry,” I whispered, barely fighting back laughter.

Pulling my panties aside, I guided his cock to my entrance and sank down, taking the full length of him until he was completely buried inside me. Jay moaned and tipped his head back, closing his eyes.

“Better?” I asked, a little smug.

Jay looped his arms around my waist, crushing me against his body. He tucked his face into the curve of my neck and shoulder.

“Have I told you lately how much I fucking love you?”

I giggled, threading my fingers through his hair. As the fireworks sizzled, popped, and boomed overhead, Jay and I stayed like that, his cock warm and throbbing inside me, his lips brushing lazy kisses to my skin.

“Hey,” Jay said softly, tilting his head up to look at me. “Don’t worry about the guys at the firehouse, okay? Since we’re not keeping our relationship a secret, obviously, we’re bound to be the topic of conversation at some point.”

I pressed my palm to his cheek, tracing my thumb over his lower lip as the sparkle of fireworks reflected in his eyes.

“I know. It’s just that…I’m the only woman there. I was concerned that you might see me as nothing more than a notch in your bedpost. I didn’t want to diminish my professional standing at work.”

Jay squeezed his arms tighter around me.

“I certainly hope you’re not concerned aboutthatanymore.”

I shook my head. “Not even a little bit.”

Jay hummed and turned his head, pressing a kiss into my palm.

“Good. You’re a hard worker, Rosie. My crew will respect you for that. If they don’t, then I’ll straighten them out. I promise.”

The crowd began to chant the countdown to midnight.

“Ten…nine…eight…”

A slow, lovestruck smile spread across Jay’s face.

“Do you think I should wait?”

I frowned, confused. “For what?”

“To ask if you’d like to move in with me. Maybe I should hold off until the new year.”

I slid my hands up Jay’s chest, popping open buttons as I went until I reached his warm skin.

“Doesn’t make any difference to me. You’re getting a resoundingyes.”

Jay laughed against my mouth as I kissed him. The firework finale exploded overhead and the countdown came to a close.

“Three…two…one. Happy New Year!”
