“Hold that thought,” I said. “I might have something.”

Haley glanced around. “Where?”

I headed straight for the booth of lingerie. Several sets were displayed across a table but the one that drew my attention was a red sheer chemise with matching stockings. The thought of the delicate fabric gracing Rosie’s curves made my brain go blank.

She would kill me for it. And yet, something told me she would love it, too.

Haley came up beside me and a furious blush colored her cheeks.

“Oh, you’re really…um…going all out, huh?”

“It’s over the top,” I admitted. But if I was going to impress Rosie and thaw that icy exterior, I had to lay everything on the line.

Haley tugged at her earlobe and turned her back on the booth. I chuckled at her bashfulness.

“Didn’t you mention that you work together?” she asked.

I nodded, thumbing at the hem of the lacy chemise. It was so soft to the touch that it felt like a cloud.

“Then wouldn’t you get in trouble for such an…” Haley cleared her throat. “Intimate gift?”

“With anyone else, I would keep it professional,” I replied. “But this woman…Haley…I have a feeling she can handle this.”

Haley still looked skeptical.

“What if it’s too much too fast? You might scare her off.”

I thought of my conversation earlier in the week with Rosie. I remembered the way she leaned in, challenging me, proclaiming herself a virtuous good girl with those gorgeous tits on display and that gleam in her eye that suggested she knew how to play hardball when the right man brought it out of her.

“Trust me,” I said. “This will be perfect.” I gestured to the vendor to get their attention and indicated the chemise and stockings. “I’ll take this set, thank you. And wrap it up nice and pretty for me too please.”

Chapter Three

Rosie

The holiday bazaar had been just what I needed to get my mind off Jay Lawson. I’d finished the last of my Christmas shopping and ate too many delicious sweet treats. To top it all off, I hadn’t encountered Jay at all. Knowing he would be there for the Friday parade, I attended the bazaar on Saturday instead, so our paths never crossed, much to my delight.

Now it was Monday morning and back to work. That’s when I found the sparkly gift bag on my desk.

I glanced around but no one was near my office. I’d passed a few firefighters in the apparatus bay when I came in, a handful more lingering outside the locker room. None of them had seemed like they might be up to trouble…

Hooking one finger in the bag’s pale ribbon handle, I pulled it toward me. I’d expected some hazing when I’d started working at the fire department, but since I was the only female on staff, I suspected Chief Wright had given a stern warning to leave me alone. Could this be a belated practical joke?

A tag dangled from the handle and the looping cursive read:From a secret admirer.

Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled the bag open. Tucked inside, nestled amid a cloud of white tissue paper, I found a breathtaking set of lingerie and it made me flush with heat from head to toe.

It was soft and lacy and so delicate that it felt like spider silk in my hands. I’d never worn anything like this - there was barely any fabric to cover the essentials.

“Secret admirer, my ass,” I muttered through gritted teeth.

Despite my indignation, I tucked the lingerie carefully back into the bag. In the back of my mind, a small voice admitted how pretty it was, how sensual it felt beneath my fingertips. No one had ever given me something so…lavish, so erotic.

If the gift had come from anyone else besides Jay Lawson, I would be flattered and I would have gladly accepted it.

But that wasn’t the case.

I marched out of my office, the bag clutched like a ticking time bomb in my hands. I checked the common room first, but there was no sign of him. Then I checked the apparatus bay. Nothing.
