I finally found Jay in his office, paperwork spread out on his desk. I didn’t bother to knock and simply pushed his door open. He turned, his eyebrows raised in surprise at the intrusion. There was a certain level of respect that was due to him as a Lieutenant and I was clearly flouting that hierarchy now by barging in without requesting permission for entry.

I shoved the bag into Jay’s chest.

“What did I just say last week about reporting you for sexual harassment?”

“I didn’t say you had to model it for me, sweetheart,” he replied with a coy look in his eye.

I inhaled a sharp breath to prevent myself from smacking him.

“Don’t call me that. My name is Rosie. Use it.”

Jay set the gift bag on his desk and leaned back in his chair. He didn’t look the least bit remorseful.

“Yes, ma’am,” he replied, an undertone of sarcasm thick in his voice.

He was being flippant and it was infuriating. Despite the many retorts flying through my head, when I tried to settle on one, it slipped away and I was left standing there, irritated, with nothing to say. It didn’t help with the way Jay was sitting - hands folded across his stomach, legs spread wide, his pants snug against his crotch, revealing a clear outline of his cock which was certainly not small.

I tore my gaze away.

Damn it. Now I was annoyedandturned on.

Just as I turned to storm out of his office, Jay reached into a drawer and pulled out a small flat package in red wrapping paper, tied with a white bow. He held it out to me.

“I got you something else. Just in case you didn’t like the first gift.”

I kept my hands resolutely at my sides and refused to take it.

“Come on,” he said. “It’s Christmas. I’m trying to get on Santa’s nice list for once. Don’t expect it to happen too often.”

Reluctantly, I reached out stiffly and accepted the box. What would I do if it was more lingerie? Probably combust on the spot since my face was already heated and my core desperately needed to be touched. I’d never masturbated at work but I was definitely breaking that record today as soon as this conversation was over. Thank God my office had blinds and a sturdy lock.

Tugging the ribbon free, I unwrapped the box. I didn’t know what to expect when the last of the wrapping paper fell away. Maybe handcuffs. Or a selection of flavored lubes.

Instead, it was simply chocolates. The expensive kind, imported from a chocolatier in Switzerland - a tasteful gift for the holidays that showed Jay could act like a decent human being when he chose to.

Jay leaned forward in his chair, propping his elbows on his knees.

“Do you think we could call this a truce? Just for the holidays, at least, so we’re not at each other’s throats all the time.”

I flicked my gaze up to him.

“That depends. You’re the one who seems to get a kick out of riling me up.”

Jay grinned with a shrug.

“Can’t help it. You’re so prim and proper, I like to see you break out of that shell a bit more every once in a while.”

I pressed my lips together in a line of disapproval. Jay placed his hand over his heart.

“I’ll be on my best behavior, I promise.”

I hummed with doubt. “That remains to be seen. But…” I paused, considering the chocolates. The lingerie still sat on his desk and I hadn’t forgotten the line that he’d clearly crossed with it. I also hadn’t forgotten how tempted I’d been to keep it, not that Jay would ever see me in it. “But I guess we can come to an impasse. For the sake of Christmas.”

“I’m glad to hear that. Thank you, Rosie.”

My stomach swooped at the sound of my name in his mouth. The way it rolled off his tongue sounded intimate and sent a shiver rippling up my back. I had to get out of here before my common sense completely abandoned me.

As I headed for the door of Jay’s office, a thought flashed into my mind at the last minute and I skidded to a halt.
