My nostrils flared, every fiber of my being wanting to jump off the sofa and go to her.

“And if I asked you to cross Dante for me, would you?” Lorenzo asked.

Remy shook his head, answering immediately with, “No.”

I wasn’t sure if that was right or wrong, but Lorenzo seemed pleased with it and I—

The office door swung open, bashing against the wall with the force. “Can you not hear me through this stupid door?” Navy shouted.

I leaped up off the sofa, about to tell her that she shouldn’t have opened the door and barged in here, but my words disappeared the moment I saw her heaving chest and pale face.

“Navy?”

“It’s happening,” she growled out, then a second later she grabbed onto the doorframe, screaming as she held her stomach. “Oh my God, it hurts!”

My eyes widened, my body frozen to the spot. “It’s happening?” I echoed.

“The baby.” She sagged, her entire body looking exhausted. “It’s coming and—” She cut herself off, shouting so loud that I swore my ears popped. “I can feel it.” Tears streamed down her face. “I can feel it coming out.”

I lunged forward, launching myself over the sofa and sprinting to her as her body caved, her legs giving way, but I managed to catch her just in time. Her clothes were wet, her water clearly having broken. “It’s okay, sweetheart, I’ll get you to the hospital—”

She shook her head. “No time.” Her hand gripped my arm so hard I swore I lost feeling in it for a second. “I need to push.”

“Push?” I panicked, feeling my body sway, but then another set of hands grabbed at Navy, helping me hold her upright. “You can’t push.”

Her hand squeezed my arm, nails digging into the flesh, her nostrils flaring as she ground out, “I can feel it, D. I can feel itright there.” The moment she’d said the last word, she started shouting again, a contraction hitting her like a freight train.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” I searched the room, seeing that it was Romeo that had come over to help keep her standing. “What do I do?” I wasn’t sure who I was asking or why they’d know, none of them had gone through this.

“Lay her down,” Lorenzo demanded, moving away from one of the sofas and near Remy. “If she wants to push, then it’s too late for the hospital.”

My breaths were coming quick and sharp as I realized that I was unprepared for all of this. I hadn’t thought about what the labor would be like, hadn’t thought about what to do or how to act. But now it was here, and I didn’t know what the hell to do.

“Call Ma,” I shouted, helping Navy over to the sofa. As soon as she was laid back, she groaned again. The contractions were getting closer and closer, and from the little that I knew, that meant the baby was coming asap, right?

Lorenzo pulled his cell out, moving across the room as I placed my hands on either side of Navy’s face. “I’m gonna take a look, okay, sweetheart?”

“No!” She grabbed my arm, stopping me from moving. “Don’t leave me.”

“I’m not.” I placed a kiss on the top of her head and pulled her grip off of me. “I’ll just take a quick look, okay? Then we’ll know what we’re dealing with.”

I gulped, knowing that this would be something that I wouldn’t be able to unsee as I pulled her dress up and yanked her panties off her.

“Holy shit.” I blinked, my stomach dropping. The room swayed, or was that me? “I can see the head.”

“Dante!” she screamed. “I need you.” She was crying, the tears running down her cheeks like a waterfall. She was scared and in pain. I hated seeing her like this, hated witnessing the torment on her face.

“It’s okay,” Lorenzo said, walking back toward us as he ended the call he was on. He looked so unsure, like he had no idea how to behave. “You’ll be okay.” He stood next to Navy, his hand gripping the back of the sofa. Was he trying to comfort her? Because he sounded like a robot.

“It fucking hurts!” she shouted, reaching out and grabbing his hand. He didn’t get the chance to move away because her grip was as strong as an ox.

Lorenzo’s eyes widened, his panic as clear as day, and I wondered if I looked the same right now.

“Come up here,” Romeo said, rolling up the sleeves on his shirt. “You keep her calm and I’ll go down there.”

“Like fuck you will.” I laughed but the sound was off. “There’s no way you’re coming down here and—”

Navy lifted her head, her knuckles turning white with how hard she was holding Lorenzo’s hand. “Dante Beretta, get your ass up here right now.”
