His stare met mine, the brown in his eyes turning to black. “You bet your ass it is, sweetheart.”

CHAPTER 11

DANTE

“Finally!” Ma shouted, pacing back and forth in the entryway. “I told you to be here at five.”

I glanced at the Rolex on my wrist, seeing that it was only five minutes after five. “We’re a few minutes late, Ma. Calm down.”

She huffed out a breath, her gaze searching us. “Where’s Dario?”

“Romeo has him,” Navy said, smiling over at Ma. “He came and stole him about an hour ago. Something about wanting to show him his new car.” Navy shrugged, but I could see how happy she was that the family had fallen in love with our son as much as we had.

They said it took a village to raise a child, and we had no doubt that we had that around us.

“Oh.” Ma’s shoulders sagged. She’d monopolized Dario at every opportunity she had over the last three weeks.

Damn. Three weeks. It felt like only yesterday that Navy was screaming on Lorenzo’s sofa as she pushed Dario out.

Wait…three weeks.

My cock jumped beneath my slacks, telling me he’d realized what today was at the same time as I had. We only had one week to go. One week until I could show Navy exactly what she meant to me. One week until I could worship every inch of her body.

I turned to face her, taking in the sweet curves of her body. Her waist dipped at just the right junction before rounding out to her hips and ass. An ass that I craved to grab as I fucked her harder than she’d ever been fucked before. My pulse thrummed, my breaths heaving in and out of my body.

I had to stop thinking about her without her clothes on. I had to be patient, but fuck, it was hard.Literally.

“Well?” I asked, wrapping my arm around Navy’s waist and holding her close to me. It was the most I could do right then. It would have to do…at least for the next seven days.

Ma shook her head, her gaze clearing. “Follow me.” She marched toward the main doors, on a mission, but both Navy and I stayed glued to the spot. When she realized we hadn’t followed her immediately, she demanded, “Come on, I need to show you something.” Ma hadn’t turned around to see that we weren’t following, but just like all of the Berettas, she knew her surroundings at all times.

She heaved the front door open, and as she stepped outside, I looked down at Navy. “I have no idea what this is, do you?”

“No.” She pulled away from me, but her hand reached for mine. Her soft smile was addictive. “Let’s go find out.”

By the time we got outside the front doors, Ma was already halfway across one of the lawns in the opposite direction to the gates, waving her arms frantically for us to hurry up.

I frowned, wondering why she was bringing us down here. It wasn’t like there was anything down there but an old guesthouse that hadn’t been used since we were kids.

“Close your eyes,” Ma said, coming to a halt in front of a line of trees.

“Ma,” I huffed out. “Just tell us already.” She was acting like I didn’t know what was beyond the trees, and seeing how excited she was, I was letting her believe I didn’t know where she was taking us.

“Close your eyes, Dante Beretta.” I knew that tone all too well, so I did as she said. Her hand grabbed for mine and I held on to Navy’s tighter as Ma led us. We were only walking for a few minutes until she told us to stop, and then, “Open your eyes!”

I snapped my eyes open, blinking several times as I stared at the guesthouse that had always been here. Only…this time it was different. Gone was the old white siding and in its place a sage green. The wood had been replaced, the roof tiles were all new, and there was a white door with a silver number two placed on it.

“Ma?” I tilted my head, confusion washing over me. “I don’t understand…”

“Since your dad died,” Ma started, her tone quieter, “I’d been doing this place up. I was sure Lorenzo didn’t want me living in that big old house with him and Aida. But then Christian moved in with Sofia, and you came home, and I realized that I don’t want to be away from the house.” She sighed, tears shimmering in her eyes. We were all close to Ma.

“But I was halfway done with renovating this place. And then Navy turned up.” Ma stepped forward and took Navy’s hands, smiling down at her in the same way she smiled at Sofia and Aida. “And I realized, I hadn’t been renovating it for me.” She paused, her gaze tracking from Navy and to me. “I’d been renovating it for you without even knowing it.”

“We can’t take it,” I told her immediately. Ma had always talked about what she wanted to do to the guesthouse. It was one of the reasons why no one had gone in there for years, making sure it wasn’t vandalized by us as teenagers. We knew Ma had ideas for her own craft room where she could make all of these things she’d always wanted to. And a place where she could get away to and not have to be in the mansion with us all. It was going to be her safe haven. Her own little slice of heaven.

“Youwilltake it,” Ma demanded, pulling out two sets of keys and holding them in the air. “You need to be here, within the safety of these gates. You’re the underboss, Dante.” I winced at her words. I still hadn’t told Navy the ins and outs of everything. We’d been busy, and if I was honest, I was glad that it had slipped my mind. “But you can’t live in that mansion, not with Dario. You need your own space.”

“I can get us a house somewhere, Ma. I have the money and—”
