The dining room door swung open, Romeo’s face appearing. “Remy said her cell’s location is at the doctor’s office.”

I frowned. “Why is she still there?” My stomach dipped for an entirely new reason this time. Was something wrong with Dario? Fuck. Had I been waiting all this time for her to get back while she was dealing with something serious?

I didn’t wait for anyone to answer me as I hurried out of the dining room and to the front doors. By the time I was at the threshold, I was sprinting toward my car.

“No,” Lorenzo shouted after me, his voice close. “SUV. I’m coming with you.”

I didn’t ask why he was coming, didn’t argue with him, I just veered to the left and the SUV that was parked out front. My heart raced a mile a minute as the lights blinked two times, telling me it was unlocked, then I jumped into the passenger seat.

Several doors opened and closed, the engine turned on, and it was only then that I realized Lorenzo had gotten into the driver’s seat and was peeling down the driveway toward the gate.

A quick look in the rearview mirror showed me that Romeo and Christian were in the back, their expressions blank. That wasn’t a good sign. But what worried me more was Lorenzo driving. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen him in the driver’s seat.

I was glad that the thought of Lorenzo driving distracted me, because as soon as we pulled up outside of the doctor’s office and we saw Navy’s car parked there, I knew something was wrong.

Lorenzo hadn’t fully stopped before I yanked the door open and jumped out. I sprinted to the doctor’s office, thankful that the lights were still on and someone was inside.

“Navy Peters,” I panted out, stopping at a desk that a woman was sitting behind. “And Dario Beretta, where are they?”

I heard another set of footsteps but didn’t turn to look at who it was as the woman’s face paled. “I…Beretta?”

I slapped my palm on the wooden surface separating me from her, feeling the sting in my hand but not caring one bit. “Yes. Where are they?”

She blinked, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. “Did they have an appointment?”

I groaned, my frustration mounting with each second. “Yes.”

“Let me just check…” She trailed off, her fingers clicking away at the keys in front of her. Her head tilted to her side. “They missed the appointment.” She slowly lifted her head to look me in the eyes. “The doctor did call her but there was no answer.”

I shook my head refusing to believe what she was telling me. “Her car is parked out front.” I pointed at the door to emphasize my point. “She was here.”

“I’m sorry, sir.” Her faced paled, her eyes turning glassy. “But she didn’t attend the appointment.”

“Fuck!” I slammed my fist down onto the desk this time. “Is she back there? Are you trying to keep her from me?” I jerked toward the glass door that I knew I wouldn’t be able to get through without a member of staff opening it. “Navy!”

“She’s not back there, sir. It’s just a nurse left now.”

“I don’t believe you.” I slammed my hand against the reinforced glass, trying to get anyone’s attention. A head popped out of a room, a frown on the woman’s face. She tentatively walked down the hallway, lifting up her badge and opening the door.

I didn’t wait for her to say a word, I simply barged past her and ran into every room, searching behind every door. But the woman at the front desk was right. Navy wasn’t here. Dario wasn’t here.

Shit.

“You need to leave!” the woman in the purple scrubs demanded, standing next to the door she’d opened. Normally I would have made a comment or a snappy remark, but I didn’t have the energy. Didn’t have the capacity to think about anything but the fact that I’d lost Navy.

It was my fault.

I’d pushed away the one good thing I had and now…now it was too late.

She was gone, and there was nothing I could do about it.

My feet carried me outside where everyone was waiting next to Navy’s car.

“She’s not here,” I whispered, feeling…I didn’t know what I felt. She’d left her car here. Her cell too. Was she trying to lead me astray?

“It doesn’t feel right,” Lorenzo said, pacing the length of her car.

I glanced up. “You know what happened,” I reminded him.
