“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind. I just wanted to inform you so that you don't feel I’m going behind your back. I have no interest in being there outside my obligation to my sister and–”

Liam put his hand up to stop me. “I have no doubts of your integrity, Sloan. You’ve done a lot around here and we appreciate it. Enjoy the wedding and we’ll see you on Monday.”

Nodding, I pushed to my feet but Jo stopped me before I could walk away.

“Hold on.”

Frowning, I turned back to her, watching her scribble on a notepad. Ripping the piece of paper off, she handed it to me.

“If there’s any trouble, call me. I’m the head of the MWC. If anyone can get these guys moving, it’s me.”

Raising an eyebrow, I glanced at her number scrawled across the paper before shooting Liam a questioning look. He actually looked smug, a small grin on his face.

“She’s not wrong. They don’t call my wife the little terrorist for nothing.”

She scoffed, shoving his shoulder and he chuckled. Deciding to leave them alone, I waved over my shoulder and headed back downstairs. When I first met Liam and Jo, I thought they’d be like every other mafia couple. Stoic and distant, spending time together only when required. It took a while for me to find out they were a love match. And by love match I mean Liam fell hard for the feisty brunette and claimed her without a second thought, despite her reluctance. Seeing them together almost made me jealous. Almost.

Jaime was waiting for me in my office, scrolling on his phone lazily. He’s been staying with me since I first dragged him into my condo. Samwise absolutely loves him and only gives me attention now when Jaime is busy. I was jealous at first but I soaked up every ounce of Jaime’s attention too so I let it go after a while. He’s just so bright and happy and being around him would lift anyone’s mood.

Sneaking up behind him, I looked over his shoulder to see what he was scrolling through. Those looked like…

“Are those pictures of me?”

He didn’t even jump, tipping his head back to look at me. “Yes. You’re cute. I like catching you when you aren’t paying attention. They’re more real.”

My face flushed hard. I had no idea he’d been taking pictures of me. They were all candid shots of me working, cooking, sleeping. It would’ve been creepy if I hadn’t wanted to do the same thing. I wanted a picture of those dimples to look at when I was in a foul mood.

“Taking someone’s picture without their consent can be considered harrassment you know.”

He chuckled. “How about an equal exchange?”

Leaning over, I kissed him soundly. “Deal. Are you ready for tomorrow?”

He nodded. “Yep. Got my tux and everything. You’re going to drool when you see it.”

I wrinkled my nose. “Cocky isn’t sexy. Try again.”

Pushing to his feet, he stretched lazily. I couldn’t help dragging my gaze over his delicious frame. I was becoming addicted to him and if I wasn’t at work I might be tempted to go after him.

He noticed me staring and a slow grin crossed his face. “Is it cocky if I know I’m right?”

Stepping up to him, I grabbed his tie, dragging him close enough so that I could nip at his bottom lip. His face fell and he leaned into me. I wasn’t the only one who was addicted. Kissing him quickly, I released him and spun on my heel.

“Yes. It’s still cocky. Now get back to work.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

He practically purred his reply and I had to remind myself more than once about my new rule: no PDA in the office. It was one of the most difficult rules I’ve ever set for myself and when I peeked over my shoulder at Jaime, I considered breaking it for the hundredth time today. Damn him.

ChapterTwenty-Eight

My stomach was churningas we pulled up to the church. I twisted my fingers, frowning at the crowds piling into the massive building. At least it was really public so the likelihood of my father trying something at the wedding proper was slim. As long as I didn’t let my guard down for even a second, I might get through this unscathed. Probably anyway.

Jaime took my hand, lacing our fingers, and kissed the back of it. “You’ll be okay. I’ve got you.”

Forcing a smile, I nodded.

We got lucky that the sky was clear the last few days and there wasn’t any snow on the ground. The event was outside the city and I would’ve outright refused if it snowed and I couldn’t take the train. Jaime parked and jogged around the front of the car, holding out his hand to me like a gallant gentleman. It was the mischievous look in his eyes that proved that to be false. He’d already spent half the trip at every red light trying to lift my skirt and touch me. It was a fun distraction for a little while. I had no doubt in my mind that he wasn’t done teasing me for the night.
