Yuri eyed me curiously. “Are you any good?”

I shrugged. “Not as good as you, that’s for sure. You have to be some kind of genius to code as fast as you did at the hotel. I couldn’t even keep up.”

He beamed at me. “I like you.”

Jo shook her head. “Don’t let James catch you saying that. He’s already looking for an excuse to kick your ass after last time.”

He rolled his eyes. “I barely grazed him. He’s fine. Besides, I was only kidding.”

My eyes nearly bugged out of my head. “Grazed him how?”

He shrugged. “I’m a better coder than I am a shooter. Some assholes decided to try and steal a shipment and we ended up in a firefight. Once it was over, James tried to tell me I’m better off as a bodyguard since I normally watch over Gabi. I told him I was better than he was and my hand slipped a little. He was fine.”

My jaw hit the floor. “You shot him??”

Gabi giggled. “Yes, then James tried to kill him. Dmitriy had to separate them and now he won’t let Yuri go with them anymore.”

Now I was dying for James to show me where Yuri shot him. He scowled. “He was being dramatic. It was barely anything.” He waved a hand dismissively. “He’ll get over it. What’s your boss’s name?”

I rattled off his information, leaning to see what Yuri was doing. “Can you teach me to do that?”

He glanced up, raising an eyebrow. “You want to learn how to hack?”

I shrugged. “Maybe people will take me seriously if I know more than programming.”

ChapterSeventeen

Yuri endedup getting comfortable on the floor next to me so I could watch over his shoulder as he dug up information on my boss. He went from the simple stuff, like facebook, to more in depth like the multiple porn subscriptions he was subscribed to and his god awful credit score.

Jo looked up from her book when I laughed again. “How exactly does this help?”

Yuri gave her a bland look. “It’s blackmail. It’s simple. He causes trouble, she threatens to turn him into the IRS for tax fraud.”

I gasped. “No way, seriously?”

Yuri nodded, handing me his phone. I poured over it, gaping. “This is insane. How can he even afford to run a business?”

Yuri shrugged. Jo shook her head. “If he’s that bad off, maybe you just need to wait him out.”

“I don’t really see that helping my current situation. I now know I need to start looking for another job though.”

“Maybe that’s for the best, that asshole has been calling me all morning.” James strode into the room, a scowl on his face. He seemed to almost vibrate tension. I frowned.

“What’s wrong?”

He walked behind the couch, leaning over to kiss my forehead. “Nothing.”

I grabbed his tie, keeping him close when he tried to pull away. “You’re lying. You look like you want to murder someone. Tell me.”

Jo nudged Gabi with her elbow. “Come on, let’s give them a minute.”

Yuri didn’t look too inclined to follow until Gabi walked over and grabbed his shirt, dragging him into the hall. He complained the whole way, calling her an evil sister, but it only made her laugh. He probably didn’t mean it, he was smirking the whole time.

I pulled James by his tie until he moved around to sit on the floor next to me, grumbling. He was so tall, he met my eyeline easily even though I was higher than him. I leaned, bumping my forehead against his.

“Talk to me.”

He sucked in a breath, scooting closer, his expression pained. “There was a lot of damage to your place. I didn’t know how to tell you.”
