“You pick. Which do you have the most games for?” I shot him a droll look and he grinned at me. “Alright, fine. Pick the one your favorite games are on.”

I sighed. We were getting nowhere with the conversation. I didn’t have a favorite because my taste in games was pretty eclectic.

“What did you practice on?”

He shrugged. “Whatever Jaime had at his place.”

I groaned, leaning against him. He cupped my neck, pulling me close. “Are you in pain?”

I shook my head. “No, my boyfriend is seriously annoying.”

He curled around me, chuckling. “I figured I’d leave the decision to the expert. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

He seriously made me feel tiny when he enveloped me like this but it was also comforting and I found myself relaxing. We ended up picking another Nintendo Switch because it's what we played together before and I wanted him to enjoy it even when I wasn’t staying with him. I had to remind myself three times that it was his and he wasn’t buying it for me to feel comfortable enough to bring it to the register. James took the bag in one hand and wrapped his other arm around my shoulders, pulling me close.

We were about to step out when I saw something out of the corner of my eye and stopped. The store across the way was a baby clothes store and they were having a sale. The onesie in the front made me pause.

“Hold on, I want to grab something for Jo. Be right back.”

I ducked out of his arm, hustling to the store. I ended up picking two outfits for her. She said she wanted kids and was just scared so I thought it would make it more fun if she had something tangible to look at.

James was waiting for me outside the store, his eyebrow raised when he looked at the bag.

“Something I should know?”

I snickered, shaking my head. “Not to my knowledge. I just thought she’d like them.”

The house was bustling when we got back. I edged closer to James. So far, everyone I met was nice but I still felt awkward and out of place. We were about to head up the stairs when Jo came flying down them, her face bright red. She locked eyes with me and grabbed my arm, hiding behind me. Liam appeared out of their room with a smug look on his face, descending the stairs at a more leisurely pace.

“What happened?”

“He’s evil, that’s what happened. He’s trying to trick me!”

The wicked grin that crossed Liam’s face said he wasn’t denying anything. He stopped in front of us, his focus on his wife who still used me as a shield.

“What did you do to her?” James questioned, setting our bags down at his feet.

“Just reminded her how fun it is to practice.”

I frowned. “Practice? Practice wha–”

When Liam shot Jo a lecherous grin, I figured out what he was referring to. I burst out laughing. Scooping up the bag from the baby store, I carefully spun around, handing it to Jo.

“I guess it’s a bad time to give you this then. I saw it at the store and thought of you.”

She frowned at me, peeking into the bag. Her jaw dropped and she jerked her attention back to me. She stumbled over her words, but it only came out as gibberish. I shrugged.

“A lot of what you said was the bad stuff that could happen. I figured you could use a reminder of the good stuff too.”

Liam and James were watching curiously. Jo threw her arms around my neck, almost knocking me to the ground. James pulled us both back to our feet, scowling at Jo but she didn’t look up. She was sobbing against my shoulder. I shot James a panicked look.

“That wasn’t the reaction I had hoped for.”

Liam shook his head, stepping around us to carefully dislodge his wife and pull her against him. He raised his eyebrows.

“What did you get her?”

“A couple baby outfits. The one I saw first said mommy’s little reading buddy and I thought she’d like it. I didn’t mean to make things worse.”
