I lifted my good shoulder. “It makes me happy, so sue me.”

James liked my answer, a grin spreading across his face but Liam still looked irritated. I raised an eyebrow at him.

“So whenever I have to work before she wakes up, should I expect to find her in here with you?”

“Or maybe you could stop getting up so stupid early and let me sleep in for once,” Jo snapped. She didn’t move away from me though. Liam growled, like an actual animal.

“You know there’s a threat right now.”

She shrugged, still not moving away from me. Liam sighed. He walked around the bed, dragging Jo away from me and into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried herself against him, apparently still not willing to get up. I watched the irritation melt off of him. Sean was right, Jo really did have him wrapped around her finger. He nodded to James once before disappearing out the door. I heard Jo squeal and James chuckled, closing the door behind them. He crawled back into bed, laying his head on his arm as he looked at me.

“Should I be jealous or worried that you’re inviting other people into our bed?”

I rolled my eyes. “Your bed. Mine is way better.” He smirked but stayed silent, waiting for a real answer. I shrugged. “I had a lot of siblings. It was normal if one wasn’t sleeping well to join someone else. I don’t think I slept alone until middle school and I missed it. I didn’t want Jo to feel like I did whenever I woke up alone.”

A pained look crossed over James’s face. “This is about me working too much, isn’t it?”

I frowned. “It is and it isn’t. You can’t help needing to work, though yes you do work way too much. But since I got to sleep next to you the whole week, it was comforting, and I don’t like it when I don’t even have a chance to wake up before you’re gone.”

He moved closer, pressing his lips lightly against mine. “I’ll do my best to be here when you wake up.”

I don’t think I could really ask for anything more than that. He couldn’t guarantee anything, he was in the mafia, not your typical 9-5.

“Do you have to work today?”

He grimaced. “A little. The last person to deal with Harrington and his crew was me, so I need to tell them what I know so we can catch the bastards.”

I shuddered at his name, doing my best to bury my face against James without hurting myself. It was difficult to say the least until he pulled me against him, dropping kisses against my temple.

“Don’t be scared. This place is a fortress. You’d have to be suicidal to try and attack us here. Just relax today. I’ll give you my credit card, you can order shit to make my room less boring. Go wild.”

I snickered. He would regret giving me free rein. I’d have to ask Jo to help me, see what we could come up with together. James wasn’t nerdy enough for my kind of decor.

Since James had to work,I ended up joining Jo and Liam in his office. I was a little worried he’d be annoyed still but he was deep in paperwork when I arrived and didn’t even notice me. I plopped onto the couch next to Jo, handing her James’s laptop.

“He gave me full reign to decorate his room and I don’t know where to start. He’s not cool enough to pull off my kind of decor.”

Jo snorted, scrolling through the websites I had up so far. “Not sure you’re asking the right person. The only room I redecorated in this house was the library and all I did was switch out the couches to something more comfortable. Maybe we should ask Gabi to come help. Dmitriy let her redecorate because she was complaining their apartment was too masculine.”

“Gabi is on lockdown. She won’t be able to visit until the threat is dealt with,” Liam interjected, though he didn’t even look up from his paperwork.

Jo frowned. “Why? The issue with Harrington happened before Dmitriy even got here.”

Liam glanced up, raising an eyebrow at her. “Because she’s pregnant and both you and Elizabeth are already targets. Would you expect me to be okay with you going to Gabi’s house if someone already tried to take her this week?”

“I would expect you to get over it. You don’t get to tell me what to do.”

My eyes went wide. I know they’re married but she seriously had no filter when it came to telling him her opinion. I waited for him to get pissed off but he just smirked.

“That’s why next time you argue about staying home, I’m tying you to the bed. You can’t be trusted.”

Jo actually blushed, scowling at him. “No sex talk in mixed company.”

I grinned. “I thought the mafia was supposed to be terrifying and dangerous. You guys are just weird.”

Jo shrugged. “All the best people are. Now, let’s see how much we can figure out by ourselves. We can call Gabi later. I assume we are allowed to call each other?” She made a face at Liam. He didn’t bother answering, his focus on his laptop.
