Buzz.

Sophie picked up her phone. “It’s our Uber. Ditch the nose plug, and let’s go.”

I grabbed my nose spray and pumps, then headed out with her to the car.

As we pulled up to the Atrium Bar for the Lollipop mixer, I could see through the windows it was already packed. We gave our names to the security guards at the door, then walked inside. My eyes darted around at the women present. Most of them were in formal dresses and heels, while the men varied in casual button-down shirts and sweaters. That was the first evidence of power play. We were there to look pretty while they window-shopped.

“Would you like a drink?” A sandy-haired older gentleman dressed in a sweater vest and slacks approached me.

Sophie gave me a nudge, and I smiled and followed him to the bar.

He ordered two pinot grigios. “Do you like musicals?”

“No, I don’t,” I answered and sipped the wine.

He frowned. “Everypretty girl loves to see musicals.”

I wrinkled my nose. “Not me.”

He flattened his lips and gave me a curt nod before walking away, only to approach another woman and ask her the very same thing. At least now I know the men are direct with what they want and expect the women to meet their criteria.

A younger man approached and asked. “How about you go back to a hotel with me? It’s only fair that I get to see what I’m buying.”

I gritted my teeth. “Not a chance in hell.”

He shrugged. “Suit yourself.”

“This is crazy, huh?” I turned my head to find Trevor’s sly grin.

I stiffened and looked past him. “I don’t know. It seems well-organized.”

Trevor leaned closer and spoke in a low voice. “I’m one of the good ones. Why didn’t you reply to my message?” He pretended to pout, and I fought not to roll my eyes.Does that work? These guys must not have to try that hard. On cue, one of the women near us let out a loud laugh at the man who offered the musical. This was the men’s playground; we were there to sell ourselves to them, not the other way around.

“How about you let me introduce you around?” Trevor said. “I’ve got really nice friends. They’d love to spend time with a lovely lady like yourself.”

“No, thank you.” I waved at Sophie, who glared at us. She quickly moved around the room, chatting in a few circles.

My head continued to throb, and I started to feel dizzy.

Stumbling down to the garden level, I stopped outside the fence leading to the back garden. A few men were seated on the chairs, laughing and poking fun at the women.

“I’ll flip you a coin for the blonde in the red dress. She’s got great tits and gives good head. She can get a bit clingy, but just introduce her to someone else.”

“Can I get a blow job here?”

“Offer the girls some blow, oxy, and a gift. Hell, all of them will to get your sponsorship. You got the pick of the litter here.”

Bile rose in my throat. I didn’t dare go there. Turning around, a hand closed on my elbow.

“Damn, you’re sexy. Come see her!” The men got up and came toward us.

“No, thank you.” I pulled my arm, but he held on tighter. Suddenly, I felt even dizzier and was struggling to stay upright. The man jostled me again, and then, before I knew what was happening, my stomach lurched and emptied over his shoes.Oh, shit.

“What the hell?!” he yelled, and his friends laughed.

“Now you have to pay for that, sweetie.”

“She’s sick. Just leave her,” one of them said, and I stumbled away.
