I smiled and bit my lip.

He opened it and smiled in admiration at the T-shirt and bomber jacket. “Excellent taste.” He pulled me in for a kiss. “You don’t need to buy me things.”

Neither do you.

Delight filled my chest as I watched him put on the T-shirt I bought for him, dark denim jeans, and then took the jacket to wear. He called Laurence and let me show him the studio and drawings before I went to the closet and pulled out my bag.

He frowned at my old suitcase.

“There’s nothing wrong with the case. It’s strong and sturdy. I have all my stuff in there.”

“You’ll have it when we return if you still want to keep it. For now, let me spoil you,” Paul half-joked and tucked me into his side. I gazed up at him in wonder as he walked us outside. A camera shutter flashed, and even though I was wearing the old tracksuit, I felt brand-new next to the irresistible man who had changed my life.

Paul didn’t take me to a department store, but to a clothing boutique in Soho. A woman dressed in all black with a buzz cut unlocked the door and introduced herself as Tricia. “Everything is here, and we’re ready to start.”

“A woman after my heart,” Paul joked.

She laughed as she shook my hand. “I’ve got your clothing size, Nadia, and we’ve brought some clothes from designers for you to choose from. First, however, we’ll be taking your measurements. Then a sewing team will work on tailoring theitems we already brought with us. We will send the custom clothes by express to Paris, and you’ll have them tomorrow morning.”

“Thank you,” I mumbled. This woman had a job I’d kill for, yet she bent over backward forme. It was insane.

The loft-style décor and track lighting made the boutique appear spacious and homey. Tricia set us in a studio room with mirrors, a vanity, and colorful leather seating.

“Can you give us a second?” I asked her, and she stepped out of the room.

As a designer, I understood that rush custom clothes from top designers and alterations cost well into the thousands.

“Paul. I can take a few items off the rack, and we can leave.”

“You know Paris is fashion, Nadia. You’re going to an industry party. You can’t wear just anything—”

“Then all I need is a dress—”

“That’s insanity. Trust that whatever you’re receiving, I want you to have it. And that’s the final word on it.” He used his authoritative tone and kissed the backs of my hands before taking a seat.

His money would never make me comfortable, and keeping a conscience was the only way I could live with myself. On the other hand, I loved clothing. My heart leaped at the racks of clothes Tricia and her team brought in for me to try on.I get to play Pretty Woman.Although, I knew I wouldn’t get the happily ever after Vivian got.

Tricia styled me in three-piece suits, strapless form-fitting dresses, embroidered bustiers, and backless silk shirts with midi and miniskirts and wide-legged slacks. The heels, boots, and shoes were all designer and top-of-the-line.

Paul’s eyes filled with admiration, and he beamed at me as I spun in a circle in a black satin jewel-encrusted gown with a plunging neckline and stilettos.

Tricia nodded and took out her camera. “I’m sending this to the designer. He’s going to want to dress you more. You’re stunning.”

I could feel myself blushing again. “Thank you. That’s so kind. That would be an incredible opportunity.”

Tricia sat me down in front of a vanity. “You’ll get your makeup done in Paris. First, however, we’ll put this on here.”

Tricia took a spray bottle out of a makeup case and sprayed a light sheen on my face. She then added a thick gloss to my full lips and filled my brow with a bit of pencil. The changes seemed minor; however, when I stared at myself in the mirror, I was shocked. Is this me?I didn’t look like I rolled out of bed or had dark circles under my eyes. Instead, I looked like a sophisticated woman.

Paul leaned down and kissed my neck. A tingle spread over my body from his brief contact.

“Perfect, Tricia. Thank you. See you soon.”

Tricia packed everything up and left the room. She returned to hand Paul two boxes before saying goodbye. The first box was full of lingerie—the lace was intricate and delicate, and the satin stitching was beautiful.

I picked up a black lace set I liked, and he immediately removed them from my hand.

“You’ll have to ask me if you can wear them.”
