I searched for my shame, but I didn’t have any. “Out of control.”

“Good. That’s how I want you, Nadia.”

Paul was teaching me him.

I hummed “Lady Marmalade” on the way to Moulin Rouge, which had Paul and Laurence laughing at me. However, it didn’t spoil my good mood. I fought the urge not to wear a corset since we were having dinner with his friends. Instead, I wore a simple black dress that complemented Paul’s smoky gray suit and black shirt. When we arrived, I was happy I didn’t opt for my original choice.

The place was swarming with tourists. Some wore corsets and suits, while others wore more casual wear. There were even children here.

I frowned. Why are there kids here?“I thought this was cancan.”

“There’s no full nudity, and this is a dinner show, like musical theater.”

“Oh, I dislike musicals.”

Laurence and Paul eyed each other.

“But you said you likeMoulin Rouge, the musical movie?”

A couple approached Paul and asked, “Mr. Crane. Big fan. Can we take a selfie?”

He gave them a bright smile. “Of course.” He treated everyone like they were special. I was so impressed.

When the paparazzi appeared, Laurence had the doorman usher us inside so we could sit for the show. They allowed Paul to choose his seat, and we sat at a clothed table near the stage.

“We have to make sure Nadia sees everything. You can eat, but I warn you…you must have room for Jacque, or he’ll hate you. He expects at least five courses.”

“Seven,” Laurence said. “I’m wearing my loose pants.”

The show started, and the performers in colorful costumes began to sing and dance. The acrobats flipped across the stage in a fascinating spectacle. I clapped and hummed when they sang something familiar. Paul kept quiet, but when I turned toward him, his attention was fixed on me.

“You’re not watching the show,” I whispered.

“I’m watching the only show I want to see.”

I beamed and bounced on my seat. He leaned in and kissed my cheek.

“So cute.”

To Paul and Laurence’s amusement, I was on my feet cheering at the end.

We headed back to the car and drove for a while before coming to a quiet street and stopping in front of a building. It was dark, with just a bright blue awning and a couple seated outside. Paul walked up, and an elderly man came forward and hugged him. “Jacque, this is Nadia.”

He kissed my cheeks. “Are you hungry?”

“Yes,” I said without hesitation, and he chuckled.

“Well, we will get along great, then.”

A stunning brunette with ebony skin and an elegant long neck came forward in a gorgeous floral dress. “Lulu.”

“Nadia,” Paul told her after their greeting.

“Of course, he finds a rare beauty.” She nodded toward Jacque.

I smiled bashfully, and Paul squeezed my waist. “Thank you.”

The café was intimate and held only ten bench tables meant for groups to dine together.
