“What do you want?” She asked, and I heard the fear in her voice. I wondered if she’d heard it in mine.

“You. More than anything.” I said, and when she smiled widely, I knew my smile was mirroring hers too. She leaned up, her face covering mine to kiss me, and then she sat astride me, deepening the kiss, and we did not leave that bed for a very long time.

Chapter 24

Vanessa

Thingsweredifferent.

The past few days felt like I’m walking on Cloud 9 and even though I knew this was the honeymoon phase of our relationship; I also had the feeling that it would always be like this between us.

We could barely keep our hands off each other, having sex on every private surface we could find that even Alba hinted that we needed to keep our escapades a little on the less-noisy side. I blushed a bright shade of red when she said that and she only smiled at me.

I loved the fact that she seemed to approve of my relationship with Christian, but I suspected she had doubts about it. Sometimes, I caught her looking at me with something akin to pity like she knew something I did not know.

I figured it had a lot to do with Colleen’s behavior and maybe Christian’s family. I tried not to let it bother me. Christian and I were in a good place, better than we’d ever been. Since we admitted our feelings to each other, everything seemed easier. A part of me, like it always did ever since my mother died, was waiting for the other shoe to drop and no matter how many times I talked myself into letting go of the bad feelings, it somehow always sneaked into my thoughts.

Christian had gone out with Roger to get a few materials for his workshop. He was going out more these days, and I enjoyed seeing this new side of him. Alba had initially pointed out the fact that he had been a virtual recluse before I came, and I was happy to be the one making the changes to his mood.

I was strolling the grounds with Beanie when I saw Sebastian shoveling some snow from the gardens. He looked up just as I was about to walk away, and I had no choice but to talk to him.

I was not proud to say that I’d been avoiding him for a while now, and it was all because I knew how he felt about me and since I was now with Christian, I thought it was best to keep things on a clean break.

“Hey!” I greeted in an unusually influential voice.

“Hey, stranger.” He replied with a wry smile. Beanie attacked him, playing all around him, and Sebastian bent down a little to play with the dog.

His full curly hair was getting darker from the lack of sun and he’d let his beard grow out a little, giving him an edgier look. The man was very handsome and if I had met him back home in New York before I met Christian, I would have entertained the thought of dating him. But Christian happened, and all the other men seemed dull in comparison.

“Looks like you’ve been busy around the house.” There was an undertone to his voice like he was saying something I was missing, but I ignored it.

“Yeah. You have to.”

Our conversation was awkward and stilted and it made me a little sad that we could not have been friends at least. It seemed like introducing him to Leila would be a good idea, although I did not see how that long-distance thing could work.

“Well, I’ve got to get back to work. See you around.” He said, before turning and walking away. I stared at him, retreating for only a second before I turned and continued into the house.

My laptop beeped just as I walked into my room, showing a Skype call from Leila. I was just thinking of calling her too. I wanted to talk to her about Sebastian, but she beat me to it.

“Hey, babe. What’s up?” She said as I answered the call.

“I’m good. I was just about to call. How are you?”

“Good, the weather’s getting pretty cold out here, and I miss you like hell. Also, I met someone new last week. We had a one-night stand; P.S; don’t judge me because I had a pregnancy scare, though I took the morning-after pill, so all should be good in the baby factory town.”

“Okay, that is a lot of drama to unpack.” I was laughing as I spoke and Leila chuckled, too.

“What do you mean you had a pregnancy scare?” I asked.

“Exactly that. Again; don’t judge me, but we were so into the sex that I let him come inside me without a condom, and then he was so cool about it, we went and got the morning-after pill together the next day and we also did some tests to prove to each other that we were clean. He insisted.”

“Oh, sounds like a gentleman.”

“We’re going on a date tonight.”

“Wow, looks like my girl’s been busy,” I said to her and she did a little shoulder dance that made me smile. I was glad she was happy. She helped me so much after my whole drama with the hospital and with Nate. I can't even imagine how or where I would be now if she had not helped me, but I was glad she did.

“What about you?” Her question pierced my thoughts. “How are things with you and your billionaire man?”
