Tanya helped Malcolm round up the last of the customers, and he had Reggie walk her to her car as he locked up before joining the others. He poured himself a shot of tequila.

“We were just talking about your blue balls, Mal,” Blake said, gulping more beer.

Malcolm resisted the urge to punch his best friend in the face. “Leave it alone.”

Nicholas knocked back his own shot. “I’ve been wondering this for a while. Is Jami the woman you once mentioned to me?”

His memory was too sharp. Especially since Malcolm had mentioned the one that got away after a bender, similar to the one they were about to have. “Yeah, she is. I lost my virginity to her back in high school.”

“What?” Blake asked, freezing with his beer halfway to his mouth. “When was this?”

Since it was long after his friend was already fucking every girl in sight, Malcolm hesitated. “It doesn’t matter. Things didn’t work out.” He grabbed the bottle of Patrón, pouring himself another shot. “That’s why I’m not in a hurry. I don’t want to make any mistakes.”

“There’s such a thing as missing your window,” Nicholas murmured.

Malcolm paused at the very idea. His heartbeat felt heavy in his chest. The bottle hovered over Nicholas’s glass.

The suit nodded to him, waiting for him to pour. “I’m not saying that’s going to happen. My only point is that timing is everything.” He drained his shot, lips pressing together. “There’s pushing too soon, but you can also wait too long.”

“I never thought of that,” Blake said, staring into his own glass.

Damon’s snort drifted through the phone. “That’s because you’ve never waited. Hell, Blake, before Katie, you plowed everything in sight as soon as you saw them, but never twice.”

Blake shrugged. “I was working through some issues.”

“And the entire female population,” Trenton murmured. He nudged his own glass forward. “I wouldn’t worry, Mal. Celia’s told me a little about what Jami’s gone through. You’ll overthink things, but she’s someone that will appreciate you thinking about her.”

Malcolm could barely think about anything else. Well, there was Celia, of course, but her condition seemed stable enough. “Jami’s cast is coming off in a few days,” he said. It had become a symbol to him of her being physically healthy enough for more. Anticipation of the day had been steadily building, but he didn’t want to put expectations on it.

“Well, then,” Blake said, raising his glass. “To Malcolm’s lost virginity!”

The other guys smirked as they lifted their glasses.

“Jesus, Blake,” Malcolm muttered, but he drained his own glass with them.

Chapter 13

Jamistareddownintoher steaming mug of hot chocolate as the women laughed around her. She had a sweet tooth, as Malcolm had figured out, but it didn’t run to chocolate.

“Holy shit, Kay, you just said you want Blake to fuck your baby girl out of you.” Erin shook her head as she cackled. “I’m pretty sure the fucking goes the other way.”

“Jesus, Erin,” Katie groaned, but she had a smile on her face as well. “And it’s true, okay? I read that sex can help to trigger contractions. Though it’s still too early for it to work on me. That’s more for the very end.”

“Trenton read that, too,” Celia murmured. Her hand went to her stomach. For being in the second trimester, her baby bump was less pronounced than Jami would have suspected.

Katie leaned toward her cousin, but groaned from the effort. Her hand rested on Celia’s arm. “How are you holding up over there?”

“I’m happy about the baby. I am.” Celia voice held the tone Jami had heard before, the one that sounded almost like she was convincing herself. “But I can tell Trenton’s worried. He reads all sorts of books about pregnancy.”

“Well, I mean, that’s Trent,” Erin said with a shrug. “He’d have done that anyway.”

“True, but…” Celia swallowed, her cheeks turning pink. Then her words ran out of her in a rush. “He hasn’t touched me for weeks.”

“Weeks?” Katie’s eyes widened. “Pregnancy made me hornier. No way could I last weeks.”

“Why not take things in hand, chick?” Erin asked. Her own hand lifted, and she wiggled her fingers. “Nicky Boy can never resist that.”

Jami shifted, looking away. She’d resorted to hand jobs often with Andrew, but more to keep him from having sex with her than to instigate it. Her fingers went numb around the mug, and she set it on the end table.
