Her hands lowered to his ass, her fingers tracing every inch of it before latching on to squeeze. His body shuddered.

“I love you, Malcolm,” she said, and his nostrils flared as his eyes squeezed tight. She kissed his stubborn mouth, her tongue stroking inside even as his grip on her weakened, allowing her to arch up. Malcolm cried out as his erection entered her, burying deep even as she clenched around him, orgasming from that first thrust.

He sucked on her tongue as the pulsing took over, and she tried to wrap herself around him, not wanting to let go. He had held himself still, she realized as awareness seeped back in, and his jaw had clenched tight in his effort not to join her.

She leaned up to kiss his closed eyelids, and his ass tightened under her hands when the motion rocked him inside her. “I love you,” she said again, brushing her lips over his.

His eyes opened and locked onto hers even as his hold on her shifted, his arms forcing her thighs wider and tilting her hips higher, until he pressed against something that made sparks flash low in her stomach. His mouth captured her cry, and his eyes held hers as he began to thrust. The sensation rocketed through her, not building into an ache but throwing her into it. He growled against her mouth as the second orgasm took her, but he didn’t slow. His body shuddered as each pulse squeezed his erection, his thrusts losing rhythm.

Her head fell back, the ache building again so quickly. His gaze was still fierce on her, as if he never wanted to look away, but his jaw was too tight to say what he’d wanted to for so long. So she said them herself, over and over as the spiral built even higher than before.

Malcolm cried out as he thrust deep, his arms shifting to pull her body flush against his. Her throat closed, cutting off any sound as she climaxed with him, the whole world falling away except for his warm, brown eyes.

Long after their last shudders had left them, he rolled to his back, bringing her with him to sprawl over his chest. She vaguely wondered whether he still worried about being on top, but she figured the fact that there was no tension in her body was an obvious enough message. She tilted her head to kiss him under his chin, but found she didn’t want to move away from the beat of his heart, which was still a little fast under her ear.

“I love you,” Jami murmured.

Malcolm’s arms tightened around her, making her feel safe. “And I love you, Jami.” His heart sped up as he said the words.

She had never felt so content.

“I know,” she said, beginning to laugh.

He growled as he dragged her up, but his lips were smiling as they captured her still laughing mouth.

Chapter 28

Malcolmarrivedearlyforthe wedding, in case there was anything Celia and Trenton needed help with, but Trenton’s mother had the small in-home ceremony well in hand. Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell were the warmest parents Malcolm had ever known. Their monthly family dinners had become weekly ones for those that could make it, with Mrs. Caldwell hosting at Trenton and Celia’s house and reminding Celia each week that it was no bother to bring the food there, not when she was stuck in bed caring for her future grandchild.

Trenton’s mother already loved Celia like a daughter, a fact that continued to bewilder his cousin, especially when she was scolded, like now.

“No, no, you stay in bed until it’s time,” Mrs. Caldwell said as she gently pressed down on Celia’s shoulders.

Celia flushed. “I’m sorry,” she murmured, sneaking a glance at Malcolm again.

He rubbed a hand along his close-cropped hair. Most of their other friends had already seen his new haircut at the tavern that week, and he assumed she had already heard about it from Trent. “Ready for the big day?” he asked, sitting in the chair Mrs. Caldwell had vacated. The woman smiled at them as she left the room.

Celia’s fingers tangled in the rubber band at her wrist, and he settled his hand over them. She sighed, staring at his hair again. “I didn’t think I’d be this nervous.”

“It’s a big step.” He studied her face, waiting for her to say something about his change in appearance. When she smiled at him, he realized that, like usual, nothing had to be said. “I can sneak you out of here if you change your mind.”

Her hand moved to her rounded stomach under the covers. In the past couple of weeks, she’d finally put on a little more weight. “No, I want this.”

He squeezed her hands, already knowing that was true.

They listened to the voices and laughter growing in the living room as their friends continued to arrive. Malcolm picked out Jami’s voice among them, and the last of his tension settled, knowing that she’d arrived. It had felt silly to leave separately when they were leaving from and going back to the same place, but she had urged him to go alone.

Celia’s fingers turned in his, and he knew she’d realized what had calmed him. They smiled at each other, and he released her hand only long enough for her to slip off the rubber band she had always worn and set it on the nightstand. When her head settled back against the pillows, any doubts he had at the gesture faded at the peace on her face.

Strains of classic wedding music began to play, and the voices in the living room quieted.

Malcolm rose, reaching for her. “Are you ready?”

Celia nodded, and he carried her to the waiting wheelchair. Nicholas had borrowed it from the hospital for the occasion. Celia sighed as he lowered her into the chair.

“None of that,” Malcolm said, adjusting the skirt of her dress until it settled around her feet just so.

Celia looked away. “This isn’t how I pictured it.”
