Page 84 of Finding Hope

Celia lifted one with the baleful eye and let out a giggle. She turned it toward Jami, the liquid inside it sloshing. “Look, it’s Malcolm.”

Jami’s laughter joined everyone else’s.

They were already all drunk. Malcolm hoped his erection would fade quickly so he could collect the bottle after the next round of shots. He glanced at their designated driver. “Hopefully, none of them get sick on the way home.”

Nicholas chuckled. He looked odd wearing a T-shirt instead of his normal business suit. “Erin warned me already. I’m happy to let them have this.” He smiled as his eyes lingered on his wife. “Erin’s been worried.” He smirked at his wife’s loud curse as she also spilled her drink. “She’s not now.”

Malcolm nodded, but still left to snag the bottle to the women’s multiple protests. He ignored his sister’s and cousin’s assurances that they were doing a ‘pump and dump,’ not needing the specifics about either of them breastfeeding.

“Erin explained the ‘pump and dump’ to me earlier.” Nicholas shook his head, sipping his club soda. “In too much detail.”

Malcolm laughed. “Aren’t you used to that by now?”

“Yeah,” Nicholas said. “I know a lot more about Katie’s pregnancy and birthing and what happens to the woman’s body afterward than I ever needed to know.” He glanced over at the table, his eyes lingering on Erin. “And she still says she’d want one. Women are a mystery.”

“Still a solid no?” Malcolm asked. He studied Jami. They hadn’t talked about children yet, though she was good with the babies when they offered either couple a date night. He twitched at the thought of impregnating her, which was ridiculous.

Nicholas’s lips pressed together as he brooded into his glass.

Malcolm wondered if his newest friend knew how torn he looked. “I’d offer you a real drink, but I think stone cold sober is best for the DD tonight.”

Nicholas lifted his soda. “No worries there. I’ll get them home safely.”

The continued laughter at the table sent a different kind of warmth through Malcolm. The women were fun to watch when they cut loose.

“You two still planning a honeymoon?” he asked Nicholas.

“Yes, though Erin’s having trouble deciding where to go.” Nicholas’s gaze warmed as his wife laughed again. “I told her we should make a list and see each place one by one over time.”

Malcolm’s gaze cut to Jami. She’d admitted to wanting to travel while they’d been on a date the other night. He hadn’t danced with her since high school and had enjoyed the experience.

Nicholas stared down at his wedding band. “Erin became excited today because her brother promised to spend some time here after his tour. I still haven’t met him in person.”

Malcolm had been worried about his rock star friend. There’d been something in his voice lately, and Trenton said there were still no leads on his over-the-top fan. “It’ll be good to see Damon again. He’s missed a lot around here.”

“Erin calls him to tell him the news.” Nicholas frowned. “The frequency of her calls has increased. She doesn’t like the way he sounds.”

The echo of his own thoughts gave Malcolm another twinge of anxiety.

Jami distracted him as she tried twice to lift the pass-through before sidling behind the bar. Malcolm intercepted her, laughing when she bumped into his chest.

“Hey, you,” she said, her smile adorably sloppy.

“Hey, yourself.” Malcolm turned her back toward the pass-through. “Nice try, but no more for you or your friends. I’m cutting you off.”

Jami grabbed his arm when she stumbled.

He reached out to steady her, amused and aroused when she deliberately shifted against him as she rose and kissed him. The kiss backfired for her, though, as she forgot her ulterior motives and clung to him instead.

Katie’s and Erin’s whooping rang in his ears when he finally lifted his head. Jami’s happy sigh as she burrowed against him caused Malcolm to decide to close early, at least to outside customers.

He helped Nicholas pack in the other drunk women a while later. Luckily, they’d all gotten sleepy. Jami had used her feminine wiles to lure more alcohol out of him than usual that night, and none of them were used to drinking that much.

It was Jami’s first time getting drunk. He knew because she’d told him about a dozen times. He’d already plied her with plenty of water. His gaze traced over her precious face as he waited at a red light. Her eyes had shut already, sleep calling to her.

She snuggled against him when he carried her inside. He’d been semi-hard to fully erect since she’d first come onto him in the bar, so he hesitated before undressing her to put her to bed. Jami decided for him, getting stuck in her shirt when she tried to lift it over her head. He had plenty of control, and they both enjoyed sleeping naked in each other’s arms.

She yawned when she sprawled on top of him, her favorite position to fall asleep in. Her hands were more restless tonight, stroking over his chest before slipping into his almost shoulder-length hair.
