He leaned in and kissed me again, his lips feeling more familiar this time. My head was swimming. I looped my arms around his neck and kissed him harder, parting my lips for his tongue. I wouldn’t let this kiss end. I couldn’t.

Luke pulled back first this time and exhaled slowly against my lips.

“What happens now?” I asked, feeling like I was ripping off a Band-Aid.

“I’m not sure,” he admitted. “But now that we’ve started, I’m not ready to stop.”

“Me neither.”

Lukeand I got back into the truck, and he drove through Blue Creek, past the main drag, past the diner. I had a suspicion to where he was taking me.

“Are you driving to the Put Out Lot?” I asked.

“I just wanted a place we could be alone. We can’t exactly do this at the house with my mom there.”

He practically sped into the Put Out Lot, which was actually a mostly empty parking lot behind an abandoned video rental store where people went to hook up. And bypeople, I meant horny teenagers. Luke stopped the truck and put it in park before turning to me.

The air between us felt thick. My heart hammered and I was sure he could hear it from the driver’s seat. I swore I felt the heat coming off him. Luke swallowed hard, and I stared as his throat as he did.

“We, um, we can just talk if you want,” he offered.

I didn’t.

I climbed out of my seat and onto his lap, my knees on either side of his waist, and kissed him like I’d dreamed about. I couldn’t be bothered to care how many other girls had been here with him in the past. We were riding high on hormones and adrenaline and if we burned out fast, I was going to do everything I’d ever wanted to do to Luke’s mouth. I wanted to defile it. I ran my tongue along his and sucked it into my mouth. He groaned. I felt the vibrations against my chest. It made me keep going.

Luke ran his hands up my sides and I ground myself down into his lap, feeling how hard he was. For me. From kissing me. And I loved that, and I wanted more. I poured everything I had into that kiss. I panted for breath as Luke’s lips met my neck and he sucked on my skin and grazed the sensitive spot under my ear with his teeth.

“Luke.”

“God, Cindy.”

I slid my hands under the hem of his T-shirt, determined to undress him.

But before I could figure it out, we heard a sharp knock at the window and were nearly blinded by a bright flashlight.

“Open the window, sir,” a harsh-sounding male voice asked.

I scrambled off Luke and into the passenger seat as Luke rolled down the window to address the police officer who had just interruptedeverything. Though the fogged up window was a pretty clear indication of what was going on in here.

“Can we help you, officer?” Luke asked.

“Are you aware that this is private property, Mr. …”

“Kane.”

“Mr. Kane,” the officer repeated. “Wait a second,LukeKane. From Blue Creek High?”

“That’d be me.”

Luke stared at the officer, clearly unable to place him.

“It’s Andy. Andy Hauserman,” he said with a smile. “Remember me? We were on the soccer team together. I was a year behind you, I think, but, man, good times.”

I sort of remembered Andy Hauserman from high school. But I’d definitely remember him now.

“And that’s Cindy Lawless,” Andy stated. “I remember you two were tight in high school, and we all had bets on how long it’d take you two to… you know. God, everybody wanted a piece of that action.”

“Did you? How charming,” I said flatly.
