“We’ll have to get you something off the rack, but if we go to bigger shops, we’ll have more of a selection,” I stated. “And Andy’s sister Lisbeth makes her own clothes and stuff, so I’m sure she could do alterations for you quickly.”

“What about the wedding cake? Flowers? Music?” Steph asked.

“Again, we’re going to have to work with what’s available without hemming and hawing too much,” I told her. “But I’m sure the venue can point us in the right direction and show us options that will be available in time.”

“We definitely can,” Jessa confirmed. “A wedding in a month certainly isn’t easy, but your sister is right, it’s absolutely possible.”

“Exactly. You like this decorating scheme, right? Well, that’s one decision already made. And I’ll be there to help you with all the others. We can totally do this. What do you think, Steph?” Maya asked.

My sister took a deep breath, the expression on her face hopeful.

“I think we’re getting married,” she finally said.

Jessa smiled and showed the happy couple into an office where they could read over some contracts and paperwork.

“Thank you,” she said before heading inside herself. “You just made her dreams come true. Not to mention, helped me make my first booking.”

“Your first?”

“Yeah. My parents just bought this place and renovated it last year. I’m leaving for college in the fall, but I’m helping them out for the summer,” she said. “They’re going to be so happy to host your sister’s wedding. I’m glad you could convince them that this was possible.”

“Are you hiring?” I blurted.

“Huh?”

“You said this place was new and that you’re leaving in the fall,” I said, backtracking a little. “I was wondering if there were any open positions for… I don’t know… anything.”

“Do you have any experience in event coordination?”

“No,” I answered. “Well, not in the traditional sense. I’ve never planned a wedding before, but I coordinated missions overseas with the military. I kept my team alive and my equipment intact for three tours. After all that, I’m pretty sure I can keep brides and grooms in line.”

“When you say it like that, you sound overqualified,” Jessa said with a laugh. “I’ll talk to my mom when she’s done talking to your sister.”

“Thank you.”

We exchanged information and later, as we left Farrelly Grove, I got an email from Jessa asking if I could come in for a meeting with her parents on Tuesday. I smiled as I replied that I would be honored.

A text popped up from Luke and I felt suddenly guilty I hadn’t seen him in nearly two weeks.

Luke: Busy later?

Cindy: Steph and Maya are doing trivia night at Rooks.

Cindy: Kind of an impromptu bachelorette party.

Luke: Need another team member?

Cindy: You hate trivia night.

Luke: No, I don’t.

Cindy: Yes, you do. You hate crowds and yelling and wrong answers.

Luke: That’s true.

Luke: But I haven’t seen you in a while.

Cindy: We can do something else later this week, you know. Coffee. Movies. Something like that.
