I pulled her in close and braced her against me. Damn, if that wasn’t the sweetest thing I’d ever heard.

Epilogue

Cindy

One Year Later

“Cindy,oh my God, thank you for everything,” Ginny, the bride, gushed. “Today was everything I could have ever asked for.”

“You’re so welcome,” I told her.

“No, really. I don’t think you understand. We were nearing nuclear meltdown twenty minutes before the ceremony. And you saved my wedding. Thank you so much,” she said.

She grabbed me and pulled me into an unexpected hug that nearly knocked me off my feet. But I caught myself and patted her shoulder.

“It was my pleasure,” I assured her. “Congratulations to you and Carlos. And have fun on your honeymoon.”

“We will.”

I watched Ginny and Carlos get into a long black town car and head off to a nearby hotel for the night. The rest of the event staff started breaking down the tables and chairs and the servers started bussing the tables. I was dead tired. This was an incredibly stressful wedding, and not just because the bride was rather demanding and several things went wrong. It was my first wedding with my new official title. I was an event coordinator now, which meant that I was in charge.

It was hard. But it was really rewarding too.

I hoped to pop into the kitchen and snag a bite to eat, but John and Elsie Farrelly cut me off at the pass.

“Cindy, do you have a moment?” Elise asked.

I nodded and followed them into one of the staging areas, a little nervous. I knew the wedding went well and the bride and groom were happy, but the day didn’t exactly go off without a hitch. Maybe they were about to tell me that I wasn’t ready for quite so much responsibility yet.

“Cindy, you can relax. You’re doing fine,” Elsie assured me.

I let out the breath I was holding and chuckled a bit. “Phew.”

“Ginny told me how you handled that bridesmaid meltdown earlier. And the issue with the bakery,” John said. “And we’re very impressed with you. You stayed cool under pressure and handled everything quickly and without spectacle.”

“You were a true professional, Cindy,” Elsie added.

“Thank you,” I replied with a smile.

“Your first day in charge of the entire event is a test,” John said. “And you passed with flying colors. I feel totally comfortable putting you in charge of more events at Farrelly Grove.”

“Wow, I… thank you, Mr. Farrelly. I’m honored.”

I shook his hand, then Mrs. Farrelly’s, excitedly.

“Good. Now go home and get some rest,” she said. “Or come join us in the kitchen to see if there’s any of that cake left. I’ve had my eye on it all evening.”

“Me too.” John laughed.

I was about to tell them that I’d be joining them in a minute, but my phone dinged with a text message from Luke. I smirked a little at the memory of waking up this morning with his arms around me, kissing me awake, while I wore nothing but his Blue Creek Fire Department T-shirt.

Luke: Hungry?

Cindy: Starving. I was just about to go bum something from the kitchen.

Cindy: Unless you have a better idea.

Luke: I think I might. I’ve been craving fries and a chocolate shake.
