“Meryn? No.. No, you’re fine. Ame is already down here. You want to tell me about a shadow portal in Éire Danu?” he asked, then put her on speaker.

“Oh, yeah. A shadow portal is trying to open in Éire Danu,” she confirmed.

“And?” he demanded.

“And what? Dav requested backup, and Zoe and Yuki went to help. Though, I think Zoe is gonna be the one setting ferals on fire. Yuki probably went to make sure Zoe didn’t get hurt and to prevent her from burning the city down,” Meryn said.

“Sascha, Balder, get the men moving. We need to get back to Éire Danu,” Aiden yelled.

“End the call before you start bellowing like a psycho. You about killed my eardrums,” Meryn complained.

“Sorry, baby, we’ll be right up,” Aiden said in a much softer voice before ending the call. He then looked around. “Move it!” he roared.

Gage tried to sit up again.

“You have to lie still.”

He looked over to the healer. “I’m sorry, but it’s my mate and son. I have to go.”

“Take from me, Serenity. Get him on his feet,” a warrior said, coming to stand behind her.

“Micah. Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. It’s either that or he’ll undo everything you’ve done so far heading to his mate.” Micah met his eyes and gave him a knowing look. “There is no force in this world that could keep me from you if I thought you were in danger.”

Serenity threw her hands up. “Men! Fine!”

Gage felt the rush of power, and what should have taken hours took only moments. Swaying, Serenity pulled her power from him as Micah wrapped himself around her. “You’ll still be tender, but you’re out of the woods.”

She removed his IV and he was left facing his father.

Theo Fabre looked anywhere but at him.

“Father, thank you.”

Theo looked up. “Of course.”

Gage swung his feet around and hopped off the gurney. Ame took his hand.

“Gage, I…”

Before Yuki and Ame, he would have walked away. But he recognized his father trying. “I will bring Zoe and the boys home for a visit soon,” he promised.

He watched as Theo swallowed hard. “It is more than I deserve.”

Ame tugged, and Gage was moving. He met up with Oron and Priest in the hallway. “I thought you two needed more rest,” he teased.

“Zoe is using fire to defend Éire Danu. Did you really think we’d miss that show?” Priest asked.

He shook his head. “Fuck you guys.”

Oron laughed, and they joined the units returning to the city of the fae.

Chapter Sixteen

Zoe stood next to Dav as the portal continued to waver in front of them. Every once in a while, Yuki would throw a rock at it. She turned to the older warrior. “Why is it doing that?”

Dav pointed to his chest. “You’re asking me?”
