I held out a hand to ward him off. “Oh God, no.”

“You’re begging me now? Like you begged him? What happened after you begged? Did you fuck him?” He shook his head and turned away, rubbing his hand down over his face. “Jesus Christ, you disgust me. You’re no daughter of mine.” He jerked his chin at the two men he’d brought with him. “Pin her down.”

I squealed in dread and tried to push myself away with my feet, but they were on me too quickly, holding me down. No matter how much I struggled, I couldn’t get them off me.

My father still wasn’t done.

“I should kill you. You know that, don’t you? Instead, I think I’ll let your man come and find you like this. Tell him I’m staying at Bexley Farm and that I’ll be ready and waiting for him.”

He pulled a knife out of his back pocket.

I screamed.

Chapter Thirty-One

Leo

––––––––

THE MINUTE I DROVEup to Tam’s front gate, I knew something was wrong.

We hadn’t left it open.

Fuck.

Had I made a massive mistake? Had the Gilligans come here to finish the job? What if they’d found Kaja?

I’d barely shut off the engine before I was out of the car and running. Tam’s shouts to be careful chased after me, but I wasn’t listening. All I wanted was to make sure Kaja was all right. I’d thought she’d be safer here than getting involved with a mess that had nothing to do with her, but she’d have been safer at my side.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I burst through the front door. The first thing I noticed was the bloodied handprint on the wall.

“Kaja!” I roared. “Where are you?”

A small voice replied, “In here.”
