For the first time in a long time, he felt he might finally know why his wife left and why she felt the need to try and kill him.

CHAPTERTEN

Byte was nothing like Chaos had imagined. First, no one knew her gender. Many had speculated, but none were confident. That was one way they were alike. Chaos was an enigma. She’d worked hard at masking herself. This was especially important after faking her sister’s death. The last thing she needed was the CIA linking Daisy and Chaos together. Without a doubt, her brother-in-law would’ve used it as leverage... not that she would’ve told him anything.

While she might not have been one hundred percent sure he was behind her sister’s attacks, the fact remained the attempts on her life were real.

“I can’t believe we finally meet. Actually, I can’t believe you are my best friend’s sister... Or that Voodoo has a twin.”

Daisy smiled at Byte’s youthfulness. Gwen had told her about the resident hacker and their unlikely friendship. In a lot of ways, Daisy resented Byte. She resented that she got to spend time with her sister, that she was part of Voodoo’s rebranding even if Byte didn’t know it. She was especially jealous at the life Voodoo had created without her in it.

“It’s nice to finally meet the person behind the persona. I have to say, you are quite the buzz on the web. People are saying you’re being hunted by one of your enemies.”

“This week, but who knows what next week will bring. There’s always someone threatening me. Goes with the job.”

Chaos wondered about that. How could someone like Byte go pure white? It wouldn’t be possible, which probably explained why she was a gray hatter instead.

Could she go allRobin Hoodand help others? Maybe, but she wasn’t sure there was any reason for it. As Chaos, she’d amassed enough information to leverage her freedom ten times over. Not to mention her wealth. Some would say it was stolen, but she didn’t believe so. No one could prove the theft occurred when the money wasn’t supposed to be there anyway.

“I guess.”

“It’s the same for you,” Byte stated.

“True, but I am generally hired to do a job... It’s not likely they will go after me knowing what I do.”

Before Byte could disagree with Chaos, Ivy interrupted and introduced herself.

“Come on into the conference room and we’ll give you an update, as little as it is.”

The three entered the room where Ghost, Seven, and Aria were already sitting. Ivy made quick introductions, and Chaos’ attention was immediately drawn to Seven. This was the man her sister had married by mistake. She couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the two husbands. She had to admit, her sister had good taste, and obviously a type.

“What do we call you? Daisy or Chaos?” Seven asked.

Even though she had lived all over the world, the fact still remained that a British accent was her kryptonite.

“Either. Chaos is all over the web, and the only ones who call me Daisy are my family.”

“I think you should call her Chaos. We all go by code names.”

Chaos smirked. She could see why her sister adored Byte. She was a fierce protector. She wondered if that was because of her background.

“Okay, let’s get an update,” Ghost suggested.

“We know he’s been outside for the last two days. He’s not been hiding either,” Byte said.

“I didn’t see him when I arrived,” Chaos stated.

“He’s been parked across the street. You wouldn’t have had a reason to look for him,” Ghost reminded her.

“Hold on,” Byte said as she clicked a few keys on her keyboard. “Um, that’s strange. He’s not there. Maybe he’s given up.”

“Unlikely. If I had to guess, he needed to go to the bathroom or grab a bite to eat. Besides, if he hadn’t move soon, someone could’ve called the police,” Ivy said.

“I’m surprised you hadn’t already,” Seven told Byte.

“It’s better if we know where he is,” Ivy said.

“Good point. So we know where he is or was, so what’s next?” Seven asked.
