“Where is she?” the brute asked.

“Where’s my brother?” His voice rang high.

“Give us GigaByte’s location and we’ll release your brother.”

He’d seen enough TV to know that neither him nor his brother would live if he gave them her location. He still couldn’t believe he’d found the infamous GigaByte. He wanted to gloat on one of the message boards he frequented, but no one would believe him, especially since he wouldn’t identify her to the masses. If the men hadn’t taken his brother, he wouldn’t ever have exposed her. Only, he had no choice.

“No.” Thankfully, his deeper voice resonated strongly.

“Do you want your brother to live?”

“Yes, which is why I’m not telling you anything about Byte.”

The man put a knife against his throat. Each swallow pierced the knife deeper, but he wouldn’t give in. He couldn’t. If they truly wanted Byte, they would have to let Hunter go.

If he had to choose between Byte and Hunter, well, Byte could take care of herself.

“Get him,” the man ordered someone Kyle couldn’t see. Had his brother been in the same building all that time?

Five minutes later, he heard Hunter before he saw him. “Kyle!”

“Hunter! Thank God you’re okay. Did they hurt you?”

“No. What’s going on?”

“Shut up!” the man ordered. “Give me GigaByte’s location.”

“Kyle, what have you done?”

“The worst thing I’ve ever done. God, I hope she’ll be safe,” Kyle said, handing over the information.

“She’s here, in Austin?” the man asked.

“Yes.”

“Interesting.”

“Are you going to let us go now?”

“Hmm, I think keeping you two here until we have GigaByte is probably the right decision.” Looking back over to his guard, he ordered Kyle and Hunter to be taken upstairs.

“That wasn’t the deal!” Kyle knew they would screw them over. A wave of sadness and regret rushed over him.

Instead of answering him, the man chuckled and nodded to his guard who grabbed Kyle by his arm, yanking him out of the desk chair.

Walking side by side, Hunter wanted to know what his brother had done.

“I uncovered GigaByte, and we’re in a world of trouble, as is she.”

Hunter didn’t know who this GigaByte was, but he agreed; they were in a mess of trouble. He hoped whoever this person was, that she could save them too.

I can’t believe I just wished for a person named after a computer storage device to come to our rescue. Whoever you are... Please live long enough to save us.
