“Good to know.”

“Don’t you think she’s beautiful, Hunter?”

“I think she’s dangerous.”

“But not pretty?” Kyle pushed.

“Yes, she pretty. She’d be even prettier without all that makeup. I couldn’t imagine kissing someone with blue lips. It would be all over your face,” Hunter admitted.

“Not if you know how to kiss right.”

“Ha! What do you know about kissing?”

“Plenty,” Kyle said and grinned when his brother scoffed.

“Sure, you do. Anyway, I think Byte is pretty, but she’s not my type.”

“Why do guys say they have a type? I mean, if you like girls, what does it matter what color their hair is or how tall they are? I don’t get it. The type should be either girl or boy.”

“How liberal thinking you are.”

“I’m not sure what you mean, but it seems like people want to date someone that looks like the girl before. Is that what they mean by having a type?”

“Not that they have to look the same, although some do only like girls with certain characteristics—maybe blond with blue eyes or at least five foot five.”

“Are those your type?”

“Nah. I just want someone smart, reasonably attractive, someone who knows how to have fun and laugh at themselves when they screw up.”

“So, Byte.”

“Not even close.”

“Don’t you think she’s smart?’

“Yes.”

“Do you think she’s attractive?”

“Yes.”

“Do you think she has fun? I mean, she did crack jokes while we were being held hostage.”

“And it probably wasn’t the best time to do so. She’s not serious.”

“Not that you saw, but she has to be if she works with assassins.”

“Well, there’s that too. She’s a criminal. She works with killers, and well, she has blue lips. I’m sorry, I can’t overlook any of those, no matter how smart she might be.”

“You’re an idiot,” Kyle said, then turned and faced the window, in essence ending the conversation.

Hunter closed his eyes and reran their conversation through his mind. Byte was unlike anyone he’d ever met before. In fact, he’d been just fine never running into her again, but Kyle was right. She was smart and funny. She was pretty and yet a little awkward. Those were all things he liked in a woman, so why was he so put off to realize that Byte was his type?

I am an idiot. Did you forget she’s a criminal?

He didn’t do criminals. Not even cute ones.
