“It’s just a feeling. Aren’t y’all the ones who always say to listen to your gut?”

“You have to admit,” Ivy said. “It does seem a little strange. Skylar is a federal agent.”

“She wouldn’t be the first to be dirty.”

The three operatives silently agreed, but Seven wanted more intel.

“What was her part in all of this? Was she acting as a double agent? Do you think she might’ve flipped because of the bloke?”

“Here’s what I know. She never hid the fact that she was with the Feds.”

“Did she say so?” Ivy asked.

“No. She identified me as being on the government’s most wanted list.”

“Okay, let’s play devil’s advocate here. She only mentioned the list. Isn’t it possible for someone in a high-ranking position in the club find out who was on the Fed’s watch list? She wouldn’t need to be an agent. The list is on the web.”

Byte thought about Ivy’s words and conceded that was a possibility.

“I can’t explain why, but there’s something going on behind the scenes. I don’t know if it’s with ATF, the MC, or with us and ECP, but there’s more to her story. I’m just not a fan.”

“Let’s just see how this all plays out. With the club’s president dead, and them being without funds, I can’t imagine their club will be operational anytime soon,” Ivy reminded the team.

“Wait, I found her, or the guys really.”

Byte turned her laptop so they could see footage of Hunter and Kyle entering the bus station. Byte turned the laptop back and with a few keystrokes gave the team the bus arrival time and number.

“We’ll go get them,” Seven offered.

“Great. I want to shower.”

“I can’t tell you how happy I am to have you back where you belong, Byte,” Ivy gushed. “Go shower, maybe eat something. Come down when you’re ready. Seven and Aria can go get the guys.”

“Thank you. I’ll be back down in a few minutes.”

After she’d left the room, Aria was the first to speak. “She really doesn’t like this ATF agent.”

“Have a feeling this isn’t the last time we’ll see how much she distrusts the operative,” Seven agreed.

“Me neither. But these things have a way of correcting themselves. Byte will do more digging and either she’ll vindicate Skylar,” Ivy started to say.

“Or decimate her,” Seven interjected.

“Yeah, that.”

Ivy picked up the office phone and called Ghost after Aria and Seven left for the bus station.

“Hey, babe,” Ghost said in a gentle voice once the call was connected.

“Hey.”

“Talk to me, Ivy. What’s going on?” Ghost voice hadn’t seemed worried, just supportive.

“I’m not good at the HR stuff. I think you should come home and let me go up there.”

Chuckling, Ghost asked, “That bad, I take it?”

“It’s just chaotic. Byte seems okay. She’s her normal snide-throwing kid, but there’s something else going on. I don’t know if it’s personal or if she’s just exhausted, but there’s something more.”
