If I'm truthful with the evidence I dug up on this case in just a matter of days, there's no way Kai would have ever let me win.

Well, just as the saying goes, if you can't beat em', join em'.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

KAI

The woman is a fucking workhorse.

I may have had my doubts before, but now that she and I are sitting in my living room case notes spread out all over the floor, I know that she's as dedicated to the job as I am. It's impressive.

After combining efforts, her notes with mine and doing a bit more digging on the web, we think we may have found the link as to why Micha is coming after Rhett.

He's a fucking sore loser.

At least his brother is.

Micha has a brother, Dayton, in the fight world. One of the last matches Dayton had was with Rhett. The gate was pretty substantial, not professional level cash, but apparently it was enough for Dayton to be up shits creek when he lost. Just enough motive for him to need to rob a jewelry store and frame the man he'd think was responsible for putting him in that position in the first place.

"I can't believe this shit. How did I not know anything abut a whole underground fighting ring?" Marcella asks as she shifts another bit of paper to a smaller pile.

"Well, it's underground, and you do work in law enforcement. We don't usually go around telling people about the illegal activities."

Her head pops up, "We?"

I don't know why I said that. I shouldn't be admitting this to her, but she came to me with trust, the least I can do is give her some in return.

"Yes, we." I point up to my eyebrow, the cut there is mostly healed, but there's still evidence, "I'm a fighter there."

"Oh my goodness? Really? Is it brutal?"

"Well, it's physical combat, so it doesn't tickle, but it's not just a free for all. Not kill or be killed. There's a ref, trainers. Everything is above reproach, mostly." I shrug one shoulder.

"So, what's your record?" She waggles her eyebrows, and props herself up on her knees before sitting back on her haunches.

"What do you think?" I smirk at her and she rolls her eyes.

"Let me guess, undefeated?"

"You know it."

"Such a show-off." She flicks some paper in my direction, but I lean away.

"You know, I'm not a real big fan of violence, but I'd love to see that." She folds her hands in her lap, and I realize she's fishing for an invitation.

"You want to watch me fight? I don't think that falls in line with us being on opposing legal teams." I kick my leg out in front of me, relaxing even more.

"Don't you know? I've switched sides." She winks at me, and that wink sets my blood to a slow simmer.

"That's good news. I'd hate to have had to rip you a new one the next time we meet in court." I nod, and she puts her hands on her hips.

"It wouldn't have been an easy win, you know."

"Definitely, I see how you work. It would've been a battle to remember, but I still would've come out on top."

"On top? Well, I've been known to do some amazing things from the bottom." She chuckles before the sound chokes off, and she drops her eyes to the papers in front of her. Her cheeks turn a bright red, I'm assuming she just now realized just how sexual what she just said is.

"Anyway, Um... yeah, I think we've got more than enough to bring this information to the prosecutor's office. I'm going to have to go around Micha, but I know once everyone gets a look at this, there's no way that they're not going to drop the charges. Looks like your client is free and clear" She sighs.
