My phone beeps but we both ignore it. My tongue licks into her mouth again, tangling with hers, and I fumble to try to reach the lever to push the seat back.

Maybe I can get her on top of me…

It’s then that I realize that it’s broad daylight and we’re practically humping in front of our house.

Corrine seems to realize it too because we both pull back at the same time.

I try not to be too disappointed as she sits back in the driver’s seat. We’re both panting slightly and her face is turning red. Almost as red as her hair.

I spot Patrick’s car coming down the road and grab my cane. I need to get out of this car before I try to drag Corrine back into my lap.

Corrine gets out too, still not looking at me and I want to go to her, to demand that she talk to me about what’s going on in that pretty head of hers but I can’t.

Patrick’s car pulls into the driveway next door and I paste on a smile as I see him and Brennan head our way.

“Hey! Perfect timing. You can help us haul everything in,” I say as I step out of the car.

“Did you get everything for the chicken?” Brennan asks Corrine and she nods.

They hurry to the trunk and I smile as I see them talking, their heads close together.

“Are you alright?” Patrick asks me and I look over to see him studying me closely.

“Yeah, why?”

“Gabe called me. He works at the market and he said you weren’t looking so good.”

My body flushes but I shrug.

“I’m fine. Corrine’s got me.”

He smiles at that and I wonder what he’s thinking.

We head inside and this time I follow everyone into the kitchen.

“I hope that you got a bunch. We invited Hartley and Eli over for dinner too,” Brennan says with a smile.

“I’m sure we’ll have enough,” Corrine says as they set the bags down on the counter and start unpacking them.

“Hartley is the one who runs the bakery, right? I think that we passed it this morning,” I comment.

“Yeah, Crumbs.”

“We should go tomorrow,” Corrine says with a bright smile and I find myself nodding.

Brennan and Corrine get to cooking and Patrick heads next door to drop off their things. I watch them work and smile but I can’t help but wonder if maybe I messed up.

I think that I might already need Corrine just as much as she needs me and this job.

“We’ll beby in the morning for some more of these,” I tell Hartley as I pop the last bite of brownie into my mouth.

She laughs at that but I’m dead serious.

“I’ll be sure to make extras then.”
