The door opens and I step back as Heath shuffles out.

“Are you alright?” I ask when I see he looks a little pale.

“Yeah.”

He sounds a little winded, and I wonder if he just had another panic attack.

“Do you want to leave?”

“No, I’m fine.”

“Well, I’m not.”

That gets his attention, and he frowns at me, looking me over for something amiss.

“Why not?”

“The waiter is flirting with me and I don’t like it. I need a big intimidating man to scare him away,” I tell him as I link my arm with his.

“Is he really? Or are you just trying to distract me and make me jealous?” he asks me seriously and I nod.

“Kind of. He keeps smiling and winking at me, and I really don’t like it. Wait—are you jealous?”

“I don’t need to be. You don’t like it.”

I notice that he didn’t really answer my question but I let it go as we head back over to our booth.

“You know, if you had another panic attack, maybe you should talk to someone. Maybe opening up a bit will help. Even if it’s just me or Patrick,” I whisper to him and he tenses slightly but nods as we slide back into the booth.

“Maybe,” he admits and I give him an encouraging smile.

Our drinks have been dropped off and I grab mine and take a big gulp.

“Coke or Pepsi?” I ask him.

“Coke.”

“Oreos or Chips Ahoy?”

“Oreos, duh,” he says and I laugh.

“Um… onion rings or fries?”

“Fries.”

“Favorite food?”

“Pot roast.”

“Yum! We should make that for dinner.”

“What about you?” he asks.

“I’m easy. I like pizza and tacos.”

“Cheap date,” he jokes as our burgers are set down.

“Can I get you anything else?” the waiter asks, smiling at me.
