Then he’s moving, his big hand cupping my cheek and pulling me closer to him. The food falls out of the bag and down onto the floorboard, but neither of us says anything. Not when his lips are just a breath away from mine.

“Thank you,” he whispers, and then his mouth is on mine.

His lips are so firm, yet soft as they mold to mine. I part under him and he angles my head more to the right, giving him more access to my mouth. I moan and his hand slips around to the back of my neck. Then he’s pulling me into him more.

I wish that this center console wasn’t separating us. I wish that we weren’t in his car so that I could feel his body against mine.

Car headlights flash over us and we both break apart reluctantly. Jonah’s hand is still wrapped around the back of my neck and I lick my swollen lips, wanting to taste him.

“Fuck,” he groans, his eyes dropping to my mouth.

“Okay,” I whisper back and his eyes heat.

“Let me take you out tomorrow night. We can try a real restaurant again. Or I can find a campground if you want your picnic.”

My heart melts at his words. I love that he just wants to give me whatever I want.

“Let me cook for you. We can have a picnic in my bed.”

“Fuck, Mabel,” he groans, his eyes pinching shut as he tries to adjust himself in his dress pants. “If I’m eating in your bed, it sure as hell isn’t going to be food.”

He gives me a heated look and I squirm in my seat.

“Let’s go now. I can show you around my place.”

My stomach chooses that moment to growl and I know that Jonah isn’t going to be able to ignore it.

“Tomorrow,” he whispers, dropping one chaste kiss on my lips before he fishes some of the food up from by my feet.

He passes me a Coke and opens both of the sandwiches, ripping them in half before he passes me a piece of each one.

I grin, sitting back in my seat and watching as the stars start to come out as we eat.

Best first date ever.

Jonah

“Are you nervous?”Ledger asks as he watches me tie my shoes.

“A little. I really like this girl.”

He nods, looking thoughtful.

“She just moved here, right?” Alder asks and I nod.

All of the guys are over at Ledger’s place hanging out. I’ve gotten used to seeing at least one of them every day over the past week and I’m slowly starting to get more comfortable around all of them.

“Yeah, she said a few weeks ago. She works at the salon in town,” I tell him.

“Yeah, I remember Myra mentioning it,” he says.

“Where is she from originally?” Alder asks.

“Michigan. Grand Rapids, but she wanted to live in a small town instead.”

“I thought she was a babysitter?” Wells says with a frown. “Someone at work just recommended her to Snow and me.”
