“Don’t be a child, Talia.” She slid her hand down my arm and encircled my wrist. “The only person you’re making this harder for is yourself.”

Her red painted nails pierced the skin on the inside of my wrist as she tightened her grip and pulled me toward the Blood Clan.

“Princess Andrea, this is Princess Talia. Princess Talia, this is Andrea.” Valerie made a sweeping gesture with her hand to acknowledge the rest of the group. “And this is the Blood Clan, obviously.”

She seemed more interested in parading me around like a trophy than making genuine introductions.

“The lost heiress returns. So nice of you to grace us with your presence after all these years.” Andrea’s fiery hair matched the flames of rage burning in her eyes. “What a coincidence, Valerie running into you at the national summit like that.”

Andrea’s tone implied that she believed my chance encounter with the silver haired siblings was anything but. I’d begun to suspect the same thing myself, but I’d be damned if I gave her the satisfaction of saying so.

“Imagine my surprise to find another demon wolf in attendance.” Valerie swooped in and seized control of the conversation. “She looks so much like her mother, doesn’t she? There was just no mistaking who she was. I knew she was our missing heir. And to learn that she’s been marked, the first true princess in years.”

“How fortunate for the Bone Clan. If you’ll excuse me, Bjorn is free and I haven’t greeted our alpha properly.” Andrea pushed between us, knocking me with her shoulder on her way by.

“Come along, Talia.” Valerie ignored the intentional slight, along with the rest of the Blood Clan’s members and steered me toward the next group of people.

“Speaking of the summit, I don’t recall seeing Bjorn there.” I had my suspicions about Valerie’s plan, but there were still pieces missing to the puzzle and I needed her to clear them up.

“We don’t belong to the alliance. Victor and I were asked to speak as experts in the field of demons.” She explained with a casual smile as if treason were an everyday occurrence.

“I’m sure the information you provided was invaluable.” Sarcasm dripped from my every word.

“Spoken like a true royal. You’re a natural at this.” Valerie pointed out the heiress for the third clan in the Deofol pack. “The raven haired beauty is Jacinda. The Fang Clan have been business partners and political allies with our clan for centuries.”

Despite their alliances, my reception with the Fang Clan went about as well as it had with the Blood Clan. I was neither welcomed nor wanted by any of the other demon wolf clan members .

I’d hoped to make alliances of my own, but the only friendly face in the crowd was Valerie’s.

Galen and I were on our own. We needed to come up with a plan - preferably before I was mated to a demon wolf god.

Chapter Fourteen

GALEN

Talia had been gone for hours and I was out of my mind with worry. My wolf stirred, treading on my frayed nerves as he paced the dark corners of my mind. I would have done the same had I not been confined to a metal box.
