“Uh huh, then why did Jake suddenly decide to stay in town instead of going back home?” Emma whispered as Miles and Jake greeted each other.

“You’d have to ask him,” she said with the slightest of blushes.

“No way,” Emma cried. Stacey quickly hushed her, and Emma repeated quieter, “No way. You slept with him?”

“Says who?” Stacey feigned.

“I know you Stacey,” Emma grinned. “I’d know it when my best friend finally sleeps with someone, but Stace, Jake’s not exactly the type of guy who’ll hang around.”

“Em, don’t worry, I know exactly the type of guy Jake is. I’m under no disillusions that he’ll hang around after the sex goes bad.”

“Why him?” Emma asked looking towards the guys.

“Hmm?”

“Why him? I mean sure he’s good looking and all but why him, why now?”

“I don’t know instantaneous attraction?”

“Please tell me he was…” Emma began.

“Em, it wasn’t my first time,” Stacey said, laughing at her shocked expression. “I had a boyfriend during high school and the first two years of college.”

“You never said anything to me about that,” Emma said shocked.

“It didn’t end well and after that I moved up here to take advantage of my scholarship and I simply never found anyone I felt like being with on a long-term basis.”

“Until an ol’ Southern boy comes along,” Emma drawled in a fake accent.

“Hmm, maybe you have a point there,” Stacey laughed. “Guess I need to move back to the south so I can enjoy sex then.”

“You move and I’ll bring you right back here,” Emma smiled.

“Not a chance, but you don’t have to worry I know exactly how this is going to end,” Stacey told her. “Come on let’s eat.”

“Alright, I’ll stop,” Emma stated as they walked over to the patio, and she greeted Jake. “I hear you and Stacey have become friends.”

“Did she tell you that?” Jake asked coming around the table handing them both drinks.

“Sort of,” Emma said. “I’ll tell you right now that if you hurt her, I’ll make you pay.”

Jake laughed before he wrapped his arm around Stacey’s waist pulling her closer to him. He kissed her head lightly telling Emma, “I won’t harm a hair on her head, trust me.”

“How many times have I told you that you should meet Emma’s friend?” Miles asked.

“I guess I’ll just have to listen to you next time,” he laughed.

“Next time?” Emma stated with raised brows.

“Maybe I should have clarified that statement a bit,” Jake stated getting an elbow to the gut.

“A bit, yeah,” Stacey laughed.

“What did she do to convince you to stay?” Miles asked.

“Miles!” Emma chastised.

“She twisted my arm,” Jake told them.
