There it is. The earnest, bashful voice I was expecting to hear. I’m surer than ever that it’s an act.

He’s not the only one who can pull off a performance.

“Oh dear,” I say lightly. “That’s not a great association. I’d much rather you’re reminded by… I don’t know, a nice sunny day, or a great cup of coffee.”

He chuckles. “Well, according to my brainy friend, who’s studying neuroscience, the only way to form new associations is write over our usual habits with new routines. Perhaps with lunch?”

Bingo.

“That sounds great,” I say, pleased. “Text me the details.”

“I can’t wait.”

We hang up, and a message comes through a minute later. He wants me to meet him at a restaurant near the library in a few hours. That gives me plenty of time to get ready. I pick up my jog again and head back to the house. When I get there, I’m surprised to see Sebastian coming down the stairs.

“What are you doing here?” I blurt out.

He arches an eyebrow.

“I just mean, I thought you were already at work. I was surprised, that’s all. A good surprise,” I add, covering. Luckily, I’m already flushed and breathless from my run, so hopefully, he doesn’t see the color in my cheeks from my lies.

Sebastian strolls closer, his eyes drifting over my tight exercise gear. “Working out, huh?”

“Just a run,” I reply, but I notice the heat in his eyes.

Sure enough, he pulls me into his arms, hands sliding over the curve of my ass. “I’m all sweaty,” I complain, trying to pull away.

“I know.”

He kisses me, slow and deep, and I can’t help my body’s reaction: Melting into his embrace, my lips parting to let him take his fill.

“I need a shower,” I warn him breathlessly.

He smiles, devilish. “Good.”

Sebastian takes me by the hand and leads me back up the stairs, straight to his bedroom—and the massive bathroom beyond. The shower there is big enough to fit an army, and Sebastian turns it on, quickly filling the marble space with hot water and steam.

“Off,” he demands, nodding to my clothes. There’s a playful energy in the eucalyptus-scented air as I shimmy off my leggings and strip away my sports bra.

I back into the shower, naked.

“Don’t take too long getting undressed,” I tease him, flirty. “I might get started without you.”

“We’ll see about that.”

Sebastian doesn’t even wait to take off his clothes: he closes the distance between us, scooping me into his arms as the shower spray soaks us both.

He’s still fully clothed.

“Sebastian!” I laugh in shock, but my back is already up against the marble, Sebastian’s mouth on my bare neck. He kisses a blazing trail as his hands roam over my bare skin, squeezing and palming me, making me moan.

“Are you crazy?” I ask, laughing, as his clothes soak from the shower spray. “You’ll ruin that suit!”

“Fuck it,” Sebastian growls, devouring me.

“And there I was thinking you were going to fuckme…” I quip.

Sebastian pulls back, a wicked smirk on his face. “Haven’t you learned yet, darling? I can multitask.”
