That, and Deimos looked at her with more in his eyes. It was like he was looking at a goddess, which she certainly wasn’t. She was just some normal girl trying to make a living.

“Oh, come on,” Gerri spoke up, breaking her out of her daze. “You have to tell me. What do you think of him? Wouldn’t you date that?”

She glanced at Gerri now, suddenly realizing what she was hinting at. “You’re off your rocker, Gerri. I’m not interested.”

“I would disagree. You looked interested in him before.” Gerri’s brows raised.

She couldn’t lie. She was interested, but who wouldn’t be? With the man looking as hot as he was, anyone would be. Geeze, anyone would look twice.

You can be interested and still know it’s a bad idea.

“I’m here to help the cows, Gerri. And I’m impressed at how he takes care of them, that’s all. Don’t misconstrue my looks for other things.”

She laughed, leaning on the fence. “You know, it’s a lot easier to admit you think he looks attractive than trying to deny it.”

“Are you always a pain in the ass?” she asked, trying to change the topic.

Gerri smirked. “Fine, say what you want, but you told me you would try. You promised me that.”

She looked at the cows. “I am going to try.” She didn’t know if she meant the cows or with Deimos, but she didn’t want to linger on the thought.

As the day drifted into the late evening, Gerri took her inside Deimos’s house. She explained that she would be using the guest bedroom for the time being and that she was welcome to anything here.

She relaxed a little. Her belongings had been left in her room. She wandered back down the hallway to the living room. She was impressed that he kept his house so clean. She liked it.

She found Gerri in the kitchen, pulling out pans. Gerri promised to spend the night so she wasn’t entirely alone. But she did intend on leaving early in the morning. Deimos would be back then, so she was okay with the idea. She walked up next to her, looking at the various items she pulled out and placed on the counter.

“Interesting choices here.” She raised an eyebrow, looking at Gerri. She could hardly identify what half of the items were. Gerri held a smirk.

“I was hoping to get you to try some of their local cuisines while you’re here. They’re just splendid.”

“As long as I’m not eating bugs, I’m open to trying.”

Gerri snorted, filling a pot with water. “Of course not. Their food is a lot like Earth’s, but they use different seasonings. And the meat is different. But it’s still amazing.”

She smiled at Gerri, looking at everything. She looked forward to trying their food. She’d read they had some interesting cooking techniques.

While she tried to help, Gerri did most of the cooking. She took notes and tried to remember how to cook the easy items. She could always ask Deimos if she needed extra help. Or she could go out.

After they finished cooking, they sat outside to eat. Gerri made tea, and they both relaxed underneath the orange suns on the back porch.

She took a bite of her meat, and her eyes widened. It was sweet but sour at the same time. She liked it, though. She liked the seasoning and the taste of it all.

“Holy shit,” she said as she started to cut another piece off. “This is good. My goodness, this is amazing.”

“Isn’t it?” Gerri smirked as she took a bite of her own. “The Nova Aurorans do bring a new perspective on food. And things you would never think to try.”

Gerri looked over at the cows. “Did you know most of their diet was vegetables? They didn’t have much meat on their planet. But the plants are full of vitamins. Way more than what earth plants hold.”

She thought about it. She could see that since it was a planet that was mostly alien.

“Do you think I’ll fit in well while I’m here?” She had wondered if people had a hard time adjusting to everything. There were a lot of differences between Earth and the new planet. And if Gerri was a matchmaker, she knew that. “And tell me the truth.”

Gerri chuckled as she sipped her drink. “Sometimes people can have a hard time adjusting, but most come to love this place just like they do Earth. It may be different, but it’s not terrible. You have to give yourself time.”

She thought about it. So far, she was already starting to like everything. She liked the weird vehicles and the food. She liked the layout of the land, and so far, everyone seemed friendly. She also liked a certain someone.

She didn’t want to admit she was thinking about Deimos, but she was. He had caught her attention in several ways. She liked that he was passionate about his work and argued when his competence was questioned. While she didn’t like being yelled at, she could tell he did it because he didn’t want anyone saying he didn’t care.
