Deimos explained some of what they would be seeing while driving to the pier.

Deimos tookHope’s hand at the pier as they rushed to the yacht.

“Careful of your step here. The boat is rocking a little bit, and I don’t want you to fall.”

Gratefully, Hope held onto his hand a little tighter. She didn’t know the thoughts that were racing around his brain.

Deimos held Hope’s hand securely, loving the small size of her hand and its softness. Seeing that she had landed on the deck, he reluctantly let go of her hand and stepped on himself.

“Sir, would you and your friend like some champagne?”

Deimos looked at Hope, who shook her head. “Not now. Maybe later.”

“Very good, sir. Miss, if you have never seen our castle here on Nova Aurora, you will be experiencing a day never to forget. The spires. The grounds.”

Shortly after they boarded, they took off and sailed in the direction of the famed castle.

When the yachtlanded next to the pier closest to the castle, Hope’s heart sped up in anticipation. She disembarked from the ship, again with Deimos’s help.

“Let’s go see our castle. You may meet some members of my clutch. Some will be welcoming, and some … well, they won’t. And I am sorry in advance for that.”

Hope simply gazed at Deimos, not sure what to think. “Are … are they hostile to people from Earth?”

“Yes. But they won’t dare do or say anything as long as you are with me.”

“I’ll remember that.”

Deimos walked with Hope, holding her hand again. And, as he warned, some of the clutch members were just barely courteous. She noticed that it was at these times that Deimos held her hand even more securely, making it evident that he regarded her as someone special.

Finally, they arrived at the castle. Seeing its exterior, Hope gasped.

“Oh, my God. How … beautiful. I love the color of the walls.”

“You’ll love the inside even more. Come.”

Hope’s eyes eagerly took in everything. The floors were a gleaming yellow. The walls were a similar shade. As she gazed at the many vases scattered around, she saw flowers of every color … with leaves of purple.

“Deimos, I love it. It’s just so different.”

“Would you like to know more about my clutch? And about our history here?”

“I would, thank you.”

Deimos explained that his father used to be the alpha for the clutch. “When he retired, I took over. I am the leader, and the clutch listens to what I say.”

“Are they aware of what’s going on with your cows?”

“Yes. Some are raising Earth cows, like me. Others don’t like it. But we see a beneficial alliance with humans.”

“It’s beautiful here, that’s for sure.”

“Yes. It is.” Deimos stared at Hope.

“What’s your history here?”
