“You’re saying that you meant to get kidnapped? That was your plan?”

He nodded as she undid the tie. He rubbed his wrist and sat up. “Yes, that was the plan. Tura has no idea what’s coming. If he knew the full extent of my power, he would have thought twice about this. He has no idea the number of forces I have.”

He looked around and sighed.

“Tura shouldn’t have come after my mate or me. He’s dead.”

She stiffened.

What did he just say? Did he just say, mate? Had I heard him right?

She blinked, not able to move. He’d called her hismate.

She pulled a hand up, shaking her head. “Wait a second. Hold on.” She chuckled nervously. She remembered them talking earlier about him having one. He’d told her about mates and that shifters each had one, but it was almost like he was implying she was his. She was sure she heard him wrong. “Mate? Why did you say,my mate?”

Deimos looked at her, and he sat quietly for a second. The silence ate away at her. She needed him to explain.

After a moment, he nodded. “Yes, because you’re my fated mate, Hope. I’ve known since the second we met. And I love you.”

Her heart skipped a beat, and her eyes widened. Helovedher. She could hardly believe it. All this time, she was sitting here, and she was hoping he loved her, and he did.

He frowned, running a hand through his hair. “And I know this isn’t the planet you want to live on. I want to change your mind. But if you don’t want to stay, I have to accept that.”

She swallowed, wanting to tell him he was wrong. She did want to stay. She had decided that, but he continued.

He waved a hand. “And honestly, after all of this, I don’t blame you for wanting to leave. I’d want to leave too. But just know that I love you. And I want what’s best for you. No matter what you decide, I’ll still love you.”

She felt tears build. He was willing to give her the world, and he was willing to lose her to make her happy. She had always wanted that, and she wanted him. She knew deep in her bones that she wanted Deimos more than anyone else.

It was going to be hard to move, and talking about it with her parents was going to be a pain in the ass, but that was what she wanted. She wanted to live on Nova Aurora with him. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

She could picture them settling down and living together. She could imagine them getting married and having children. She could see a happy, amazing life with him, and she wanted it.

She quickly shook her head, and despite all she had thought about earlier, she told him, “No, I’m not leaving.”

Deimos’s eyes widened, and he looked at her, shocked. “You’re not? I thought you didn’t want to stay, though.”

She shook her head again. “I didn’t, but after everything that’s happened, I’ve changed my mind. I’m staying. I don’t want to leave.” She leaned closer, wetting her lips. “After being kidnapped and stuck down here, I realized that I don’t want to leave you because I love you too much.”

Deimos blinked, and then he smiled. “You love me?”

She nodded, grinning at him. “Yes, and I want to stay. I want to have many more moments with you, and I want to stay with you here on Nova Aurora.”

He reached up, grabbing her face. “You have made me the happiest man alive.”

She smiled as he leaned forward and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. She knew that once they were free, he was going to care for her. He would love her, and they would have a wonderful life. They just needed to get out first.

He kissed her like he was never going to have the chance again, and she fell into it. She missed him.

She wrapped her arms tighter around him, wishing they weren’t in the basement somewhere. She wished they were safe at home.

He growled at her and bit her lower lip. She internally moaned.

He loved her. She couldn’t stop thinking about his words over and over in her head. He loved her.
