He stood and approached her, taking the ring out of the box. He stood before her, gazing into her eyes.

“I will be here for you, with you, along every step of your journey, wherever it takes you. I will follow you to every corner of this Earth, and whatever destiny you choose, I will support it.”

Charlie’s eyes watered, and she placed the glass on the table, putting her hands in his. She tried to open her mouth, but no words came out. She nodded as tears streamed down her face, and he laughed and embraced her tightly.

Hammer slowly broke the hug and slid the ring onto her finger, kissing her hand. She placed her hands on either side of his face gently.

“I want you for the rest of my life,” she declared. “Whether that’s kids now or later or the stagnant average life.”

He held a finger to her lips. “I also promise you will never have a boring life.”

“With you by my side, how could I?”

They embraced in the house that would become their home. Charlie realized that her father was right. If Hammer hadn’t shown up that night, she might have missed out on the true magic his love brought her.
