I wince at the name and the neon pink accents on the building out front, but at least it’s not rundown like the last place.

“There, that must be it,” I say, grabbing Eden’s hand and taking off as soon as there’s a break in traffic.

The pink sign flashes in my memories and I know before we step inside that this is it. There’s a heart cutout in the archway and we walk through, walking up to the bright pink door.

The whole building is white with pink accents and I wonder what caused me to pick this chapel to marry Eden.

We both sway on our feet outside the door.

“Does this look familiar to you, too?” I ask her quietly and she nods.

“The pink does.”

We both take a deep breath at the same time and then I open the door for her.

As we step inside, I can’t help but try to figure out what I’m hoping happens.

Do I want to divorce Eden?

No.

Do I want to get an annulment?

No.

Do I want to see pictures or whatever of both of us wasted, getting married?I mean, a little bit but we cannevershow them to my family.

What if Eden does want to get an annulment? She’ll quit for sure. It would be way too awkward for her to stay and try to work together. And it would be too painful for me to see her every single day and miss what I almost had. Oh god, what if she still worked for me but started dating?

I remember the way that Logan guy had been eyeing her last night. Is that the kind of guy that she’s looking for?

I frown as I follow Eden inside, my heart starting to race. I look up into the faces of four people who seem shocked to see the two of us. Then the oldest guy grins and opens his arms wide.

“The happy couple returns! Welcome back, you two.”

“Is he… dressed like Elvis?”I ask out of the corner of my mouth to Alexander.

“You recognize us?” Alexander asks at the same time the man in the sparkly jumpsuit grins.

“Of course we do! You two lovebirds came swooping in here last night, or I guess it would be more accurate to say early this morning, looking to get married.”

“We got married by Elvis?” I mumble.

Alexander looks at me like I’m insane and I can’t explain why I keep getting hung up on that one detail.

“Did you want to finally go through with the ceremony? Valentine’s Day is always a busy day for us but we have a break before the next couple comes in,” an attractive older woman says with a smile.

Her name tag declares that she’s Ellen Cupid and the young couple standing next to her and Elvis are James and Marie Cupid.

“What do you mean ‘finally go through with the ceremony?’” Alexander asks slowly and I look over to Elvis for an explanation.

“Well, you two came rushing in here talking about getting hitched and looking over the moon in love. You filled out the paperwork and paid, but we had other couples ahead of you, so you had to wait. You told us that you were going to run to the casino down the street to buy some rings and then be right back. But you never came back. We just figured that you got distracted; we’ve all been waiting on you two to wander back in here and seal the deal.”

My heart sinks and I realize with a start that I had secretly been hoping that Alexander and I were married.
