She’s a daddy’s girl and has me wrapped around her tiny little finger. I’ll admit, I’m going to miss spending every day with her next year when she starts school.

It’s Valentine’s Day and I hold Claire’s hand as we run into BW’s Grocers to grab a few things.

I offered to take Emma out tonight, but she’s eight months pregnant and didn’t want to. This pregnancy is harder than the first, so I’m more than okay with staying home tonight.

Claire thought it would be a good idea to make her mommy dinner, so that’s why we’re headed to the store. I grab a cart, popping her in it as we start to walk up and down the aisles.

“What should we make Mommy?” I ask her, grabbing some of the yogurt that Emma loves.

“Spaghetti!” Claire cheers and I grin.

I knew she was going to say that. She loves it, although garlic bread is her real favorite.

I head toward the spaghetti aisle, grabbing tomato sauce for Claire and alfredo for Emma. We get bowtie pasta and spaghetti and then head over to the frozen food section, stocking up on garlic bread.

“What about dessert?” I ask as we head over to the bakery section.

Claire is bouncing in her seat, her eyes wide as she stares at all of the options. We end up getting one of each cake. I know they won’t go to waste.

We check out and I look at the time, knowing that I’m going to need to hurry if I want to beat Emma home and have dinner made.

Claire sings along to theFrozensoundtrack as we head home and I laugh when she belts out a particular part of a song. She does her best to help me haul everything in and put it away.

“Can I help you with dinner?” she asks, looking up at me with those big blue eyes that I can never say no to.

“Sure, little one. Here,” I say, setting her on the counter next to me as I grab a pot and fill it with water.

We’re just draining the noodles when the front door opens and Emma comes into the kitchen.

I grin at her round stomach, grabbing Claire and heading over to her.

“Hey, baby,” I say, rubbing her stomach as I drop a kiss on her lips.

“Mommy! We made you dinner,” Claire yells and I show Emma around the kitchen at everything we got.

Her roses from this morning are in a vase in the center of the table.

“Are you hungry?” I ask, taking her coat from her.

“Starving,” she says, grabbing Claire and tickling her.

“How was your day?” she asks us as I grab everyone a plate and we sit down to eat.

Claire tells her about the store and the desserts that we got and Emma tells us about school and all of the valentines that she gave out.

I stare at my wife, at the family and home she’s given me, and I send up a silent thank you to the world for bringing the two of us together.

After dinner, we put Claire down for bed and I wrap my arms around Emma’s swollen belly.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Emma,” I whisper, backing her toward our bedroom.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” she whispers against my lips.
