“They’re one of the biggest developers on the East Coast,” I remind her, grabbing my fork and knife and cutting into my steak.

I slide some of my broccoli onto her plate when she isn’t looking. Eden eats like a five-year-old, preferring bacon cheeseburgers to almost anything else. The only vegetables she eats are french fries, unless I force other stuff on her.

She makes a face when she reaches for her burger and sees the broccoli, but I know that she’ll eat it now that it’s on her plate.

Eden keeps typing away on her laptop and I keep reminding her to eat until she’s finished her meal. Our waitress keeps dropping by and making eyes at me and Eden keeps laughing at how annoyed I’m getting. I don’t understand why the woman can’t take a hint. Does she not see who I’m here with?

“Are we all set for the meeting, then?” Eden asks as I pay the bill and we start to pack up all of our papers and folders.

“Yeah. We’ll sign the paperwork, shake a few hands, and be done with it. Maybe I can move our flight up and we can leave tonight instead of tomorrow morning.”

“Don’t you dare! I want to stay another night. We haven’t been able to do anything fun yet. We should see a show tonight or ride on the High Roller!”

My mind flashes back to her forcing me to stand and watch the fountain show at the Bellagio last night after dinner. So many drunk tourists and us in the middle of them all.

It wassonot my idea of a good time.

“Don’t you want to go back to New York? You aren’t homesick?” I hedge as I hold the door open for her and we step out onto the busy Las Vegas sidewalk.

“It’s been less than twenty-four hours since we got here,” Eden reminds me drily as she slides into the back of the town car.

I sigh, climbing in after her.

“I’m not going to a Vegas show. The Bellagio Fountain last night was bad enough.”

Eden glares at me but there’s a look in her eyes that has me nervous. Once Eden has her mind set on something, she goes after it until it is hers.

I have a feeling that with or without me, she’ll be going to a show tonight. And since I’m not about to let her wander around Las Vegas at night by herself, that means that I’ll be seeing a show tonight, too.

I sigh, leaning my head back against the headrest as the town car pulls away from the curb.

I always forgethow boring I find these business meetings.

All of the work is done, so I don’t really need to be here, and there isn’t anything for me to do. Most of the time I end up doodling in a notepad or daydreaming. Today, I’m sitting next to Alexander, my laptop in my bag and hanging on the back of the chair in case we need it for something. I have a notebook and pen on the table in front of me for notes, but I haven’t needed it so far.

The lawyers have done most of the talking, explaining the terms once again before Alexander and Mr. Gainer can sign on the dotted line. They’ve been droning on for a while, so I’m hoping we’ll be able to close things up here soon and get the heck out of this boring conference room.

I can see some of the Vegas strip out of the window behind the other side of the table and I wish that we were out there. We could go zip lining or to The Mob Museum.

I look over to Alexander, wondering what I can talk him into doing with me after this. Mr. Gainer catches my eye and gives me a smile and a wink before he pretends to fall asleep.

I bite back a giggle, ignoring the dirty look that Alexander shoots at me.

I like Mr. Gainer. He’s an older man who is looking to retire. His children went into different industries and he never had anyone to pass the business down to, so that’s why he’s selling it to Alexander.

Some of his employees who will be staying on after the sale are here for the meeting and I keep making eye contact with Logan across the table. He smiles at me and while he’s charming and good looking, he does nothing for me.

I return his smile, trying to be nice, but all it earns me is an elbow in the side from Alexander. He shoots me another dirty look and I roll my eyes, elbowing him back.

There’s no rule at Bronson Developments against employees dating each other, so even after this sale, I could date Logan if I wanted to. I mean, I don’t want to. Long distance relationships seem so hard and I’d rather be with someone who interests me.

My eyes dart to Alexander and I study his profile.

He must feel my eyes on him because he turns to study me. He looks annoyed, but I can see the worry in his eyes, too.
