I kissed the pad of his fourth finger, and then his pinky.

His arm around my chest was holding me so tightly it almost hurt as I put my lips against the center of his palm, and then carefully lifted it to the middle of my chest, placing it against the fabric there, just above the arm he had around my breasts.

My heart beat against his hand, and we were both deathly silent for a few long minutes. His emotions whirled so furiously in my mind that I couldn’t tell what he was feeling, but I didn’t think it was anything bad.

Time passed, and neither of us moved.

Finally, he pulled his palm from my chest—just long enough to move his arm lower and slip his hand beneath the fabric over my skin. When his hand found the bare flesh directly over my heart, my throat swelled.

I had claimed him—and he was making it clear that he not only supported the claim, but wanted to make sure I had done so completely and fully.

I lifted my palm to rest against the back of his hand, though the fabric of my dress separated his skin from mine.

With his free hand, he wrapped his fingers around mine and lifted my spare palm, then placed it on his face. His voice was quiet and a little unsure as he murmured, “Find the lunar magic in your chest and reach into my mind. When you’re inside my mental world, ask my magic to take you to my memories.”

He was giving me what I’d asked for—an invitation into his mind.

“If you’re not comfortable with it, I don’t want to invade.” My voice was as soft as his. “I’ve experienced unwanted intrusion enough not to be willing to do that to someone else.”

His fingers spread over the skin on my chest. “I was one of those unwanted intrusions, and I would like you to witness my life so my guilt over invading your memories can fade.”

That was an honest-enough admission, I supposed.

And he had a point; it was only fair for me to see his life if he had seen mine.

“Will you resent me?” I asked.

“I couldn’t do that if I tried.” His lips brushed my temple. “I belong to you, remember?”

My heart swelled.

I would certainly never forget that.

Closing my eyes, I tapped into the magic in my chest. The lunar power was the strongest I possessed at the moment, considering my dark magic had become nearly useless thanks to the drain of my distance from the land I belonged to. It was easy to find, and when I pushed it toward Laith, it flowed through my arm and into his skin.

His mind welcomed me in, and I slipped inside without a problem.

Shock flooded me as I found myself in an entirely new world. It was another beach, but a different one than the place we currently were.

The sand was a brilliant white, the ocean a bright, welcoming turquoise. A soft breeze blew through the space while stars glittered in the night sky above our heads, and I relished the deep peace I felt there.

Laith’s mind was perfect.

When I opened my eyes, I looked down and saw that somehow, I still had a body. It was probably just a figment of my imagination or something, but since I didn’t understand the magic, I wasn’t about to question it.

When I looked to my side, I found Laith standing beside me. But it wasn’t the same version of the man that was sitting behind me on the beach. This version looked… softer. Messier. His already-long hair was longer, its dark waves falling a few inches past his shoulders. His expression was open, and calm. There was a slight curve to his lips, the beginning of a smile.

Shit, he was beautiful.

His muscles were still thick and defined; that was a fae trait that all of the males shared. His body was a fucking masterpiece, the gorgeous dips and crevices of his muscles covered in smooth, light brown skin.

I wanted to touch him. All of him.

Then again, I typically wanted the same when we were in the real world. So maybe that was a mate thing, and not a mind-world thing.

Despite the gorgeous view in front of us, his complete attention was focused on me.

That felt significant.
