“Before your magic stopped working on me, I had far less control than you do. Luckily, my magic didn’t feel as seductive as yours does. Things would’ve gotten awkward for Akari and Diora in the prison if they did,” I teased.
He snorted. “I’d pay to see that.”
“I’m sure you would.” I kicked a foot out toward him, and he caught it by the ankle before it collided with his ass. There was playfulness in his eyes as he lifted it, and then kissed the sole of it.
Then he dropped it, spinning back to the stove.
“You don’t have to hold it so tightly,” I finally said to him. “Your magic, I mean. I know it would linger constantly if you just let it go, and I would be fine with that.”
“I don’t want you to be affected by it,” he said, his voice short. He didn’t turn around, that time.
“I don’t mind. It’s not like I’m not horny anyway.”
He remained where he was, adding more vegetables in and stirring everything a bit more. “We won’t be here long enough to bother,” he finally said.
I frowned. “What?”
“I spoke to a friend while I was gone. According to her, both of my brothers are in Espen’s castle right now. We’ll go there, I’ll give one of them my portion of the throne’s magic, and then we’ll be on a boat, headed for your homeland. The captain I spoke to wasn’t happy about it, but he’s agreed to take us there. I can’t travel through the darkness to anywhere I’ve never been, as you know, and—”
My palm landed on his chest, cutting him off. “You left me naked and unconscious in your bed to go talk to another woman?” My voice was low, my possessive instincts flaring bigger and hotter than I’d ever expected they could be.
“No. I left you eating in my bed to go talk to a friend, who I am in no way romantically involved with.” His voice was curt, but slightly amused too.
“Have you had sex with her before?”
That slight amusement vanished.
My own dark magic rippled within me, slowly seeping into the air.
Laith’s eyes dilated.
“Tell me,” I ordered through gritted teeth.
“We slept together once. A dozen years ago. She prefers women now.”
Oh.
My magic died down a bit, but his hands slid up my thighs anyway. “Let me feel your power.” His voice was low and seductive, and my body heated as his began to flood the room too.

He grabbed the wooden spoon a moment later, and resumed cooking. The vegetables smelled a bit burnt, but I was sure they’d still taste fine. Maybe we could add a bit of extra salt to make up for the charring.
“You don’t have anything to say after that?” I asked him, gesturing to the spot he’d been standing a moment later.
“What would you like me to say? That I’ve just soaked you between the thighs yet I’m already hungry for more? That even now, I’m trying to decide how bad of a man I’d have to be to flood the room with my magic just so I can take you again?” His eyes were dark as he flashed me a stare.
“You’ve been with plenty of other women before. This shouldn’t be so… overwhelming for you,” I countered.
