“Honey?”

Fletch’s voice had her eyes blinking open. She wasn’t sure when she’d closed them, but now, she saw all three men staring at her. They hadn’t touched their food or beer. Jensen looked angry. Milo sad. Fletch’s expression was a combination of both.

“You like pizza?” he asked.

“I love it,” she whispered before taking another bite, and she had a feeling from the look on her mate’s face she’d be eating a lot of it over the next few weeks.

They ate in silence for a bit with Helen doing her best to ignore the way the three men at the table watched her. She finished both slices before drinking her milk and leaning back in her chair with a sigh.

“Tell me what you think will help with my bear,” she requested, gaze fixed on Jensen.

He finished the bite in his mouth before wiping his lips with a napkin.

“I’ve been running some tests since Xandra showed up with my brother, Declan. She’d been drugged by the man who held her. Probably by the same drug used on you since he worked with the hunters to plan the attacks.”

Rage flashed in his eyes for a moment before he carefully made his face relax.

“I’ve been trying to find something to help her. She hasn’t been able to shift yet though she can feel her bear more. She was subjected to the drugs for years.”

“Yes, I know how that is,” Helen murmured, thinking of everything she’d survived over the years she’d been held. Tortured. Starved. Cold. Hell, they’d been deprived of anything that might make them feel remotely human. They’d been nothing more than animals. Unwanted ones at that.

“From what I can tell, they drug you with a compound that both sedates and suppresses your bear. Over long periods of time, it can make it seem like your animal side no longer exists.”

“And you can counter that?” she asked.

Fletch stood from his chair and walked to hers, picking her up and taking her seat before settling her on his lap. He wrapped her tightly in his arms and held her. Neither of the other men even blinked at his possessive actions. She had to admit it didn’t bother her, either. In fact, she enjoyed it.

“I think I can. At the very least, I can speed up the process.”

“Any potential side effects?” Fletch asked.

“I don’t believe so, but I also haven’t tried it on anyone yet.”

“I’d be the first?”

Jensen nodded before adding. “I wouldn’t suggest it if I didn’t think it was safe.”

She believed him. She knew from her chats with several of the Holloways, including the alpha himself, they blamed themselves for a lot of what happened. She didn’t blame them. Her family hadn’t been part of the Holloway den. They had nothing to do with the fact she and her family had been attacked. They had rescued her though, and she’d never forget that.

“I’d like to try. When do you want to get started?”

Jensen glanced over her shoulder at Fletch. Whatever he saw on her mate’s face didn’t change the look on his. He dropped his gaze down to her once more.

“I brought it with me. I can give you the first dose now if you’re ready.”

This time, she was the one who tilted her head to look at her mate.

“You trust him?”

Fletch held her gaze, never once glancing away to look at Jensen. Slowly, he nodded.

“I do.”

“Then I’m ready.”

She was ready for her bear to awaken. Ready to live again. To rediscover all the things she’d once enjoyed and find new things she loved. With Fletch.
